Just wondering.
For me... I hate anything about 70F. 50F is refreshing, tshirt/shorts weather 40F is chilly, jeans/light jacket weather 30F is borderline cold, jeans, fleece weather 20F is cold. thermal underwear, down jacket, scarf, knit hat, etc (all of which when the wind is calm) .... I get this impression that people walk around in shorts when it thaws to 30f in fairbanks ![]() |

funny how people differ in their perceptions. although I don't live in AK here are my temp. ratings
80s are perfect - when you hit mid 90s it gets uncomfortable 70s are pleasant 60s require long sleeves and pants 50s get a little chilly - jacket is definitely required 40s is winter so are 30s (long underwear required) 20s and below - better stay inside Anything below that is pure torture - I never suffered more than on a long walk in Northern VT when the temps were in the single digits. Ok - I DO know that I'm in for a rude awakening upon moving to AK. |

I went to college in Fairbanks and I can state for a fact that 60 below zero is cold cold cold. But we still walked to class.

never having lived in climate even close to what you are describing I am wondering whether people can actually feel the difference in temperature when it gets to these extremes. like...can you actually tell the difference between 20 and 60 below?

Anything below 70 is getting on the coldish side for me, I don't like to wear much clothes, having to wear a coat or jacket annoys me, I don't even wear shoes that requirs socks. I have some jogging suits that I wear in cold weather but I hate dragging things like that out, I don't like to have my arms covered at all, I feel restrainged.
I also don't wear any fully enclosed shoes...I like my feet to be able to breath. When I lived in Texas we had some very hot times but I prefer it if it doesn't get above 95, I can forive the hotter temps here in Florida because it rains in the afternoon. |

To me it is getting coldish if I go out and the inside of my nose freezes together. Well...not freezes...but...you know.

Once the ambiant temp hits say 40 below...you really can't tell the diff. At least I can't. It's just cold. You grab a door knob bare handed...and it hurts for 5 minutes afterward. You take a leak off a second story landing...and ice cubes hit the ground!

100+ - Not leaving the house unless it's work-related or to drive to a nice a/c place, like a movie theatre. Not getting on public transit for anything, including a date with Antonio Banderas' more gorgeous cousin's friend's brother.
90's - Too hot, but I've survived with window fans for a long time in 90-degree heat & no a/c. Only something work-related would bring me out. 80's - Yum! Shorts/T-shirt/sandals. Indoors, a fan would be necessary. 70's - My favorite! Shorts/T-shirt/sandals. 60's - Chilly. I need a lined, wool suit jacket. 50's - Suit jacket underneath a wool overcoat. In the house, heat is on low, at least for a while to take the chill out of the air. 40's - Sweet goodness! Get thee to a roaring fireplace immediately! As above with gloves, scarf & bring out all the wool. In the house, heat is on med. 30's - Why, oh why must it be this temp anywhere on the planet? All the above & 2 wool scarves - 1 underneath coat & 1 over. In the house, heat is on high. 20's - Going out is like tryin' to drag a cat to a tub of water in a tornado! Not goin' out there unless the house is on fire or it's work-related! If outdoors, I'm often overheard mumbling lots of strange words underneath my breath. All the above & include a hat & another scarf to wear over my face. Anything lower - I'd only consider leaving home if it were work-related. Nothing else, including no food at home, would bring me out. I think that's what that 1 can of luncheon meat from the 1950's & 10-yr old bag of rice is for! Glad it's getting warmer day by day...
