Beautiful last couple of days here. 63F right now, hardly a cloud in the sky, bit of an afternoon breeze but that should die down soon.

Last night darn near everyone in town was out. Sunny and beautiful, 55F, with hardly any breeze. We walked the dogs to our favorite restaurant down by the harbor (The Fat Mermaid, in case you're planning a visit), sat outside and had a pitcher of Glacier IPA and a couple of burgers, walked down the boardwalk, hiked the short but awesome Dock Point trail, then wandered back through town and sat in the grass at the pond where some of our neighborhood kids were playing on a raft. What an absolutely lovely evening.

My boyfriend made the comment while we were at the restaurant, with the harbor and the snowy mountains across the bay looking marvelous in the evening light, "this is why I live here." No you can't eat the scenery; it won't fill your wallet or your stomach. But if it fills your heart and soul you can find a way to stay.

Does anyone go swimming outside when it gets this warm???

Probably only gets warm like this for a month or two right? -- I cant believe the extremes Fairbanks goes thru!!!

From -30 in the winter to the 80s!! (Quite a difference)

Hard to see clearly on my webcam because of the clouds, but there is a fresh coating of new snow on top of Flattop and the other Chugach peaks here!

I think we got over an inch of rain here in Sterling yesterday. Which was a nice garden watering.

Could have snowed here too, for all I know. Haven't seen the tops of the mountains since Sunday. Hasn't hit 50F since Monday, and only barely then. Was supposed to be nice this weekend for our barbecue, but now the forecast is all clouds and rain and below-average temps. Doesn't look like we're getting much of a summer down here this year.

Was wondering why there was so much water in the Exit River!

Statement as of 12:10 PM AKDT on June 21, 2012

... Widespread snowmelt around southcentral Alaska resulting in
elevated water levels on all area rivers...

Reason for statement:
warm temperatures this week have caused southcentral rivers and
streams to become swollen with snowmelt. A significant snowpack
remains in the upper elevations due to the cooler than normal Spring.
Warm temperatures and high freezing levels will persist through
Saturday before a pattern change on Sunday brings a return of cooler
onshore flow. River levels will continue to rise and likely crest
this weekend. Isolated thunderstorms Thursday may cause further
rises.

Expected impacts:
at this time... flooding is not expected although some rivers and
streams may approach bankfull or experience very minor local flooding
in low lying areas. Water levels will be high enough to cause local
bank erosion especially along the Matanuska river. Recreational
enthusiasts should exert caution and be alert for high water.

Whether you are driving or walking... if you come to a flooded
Road... turn around don't drown.
