Spent the weekend in Fairbanks. Were going to leave Sunday, but wound up having to stay until Monday morning. It took 2.5 hours to drive the 8 miles from a friend's house up on Gilmore Trail down to Farmer's Loop on the Steese. There was a school bus stuck sideways across the road just before the Farmer's Loop exit, and after that was cleared out a couple of cops were having to push cars away from the side of the road as they went around a bend because it was so slick. The roads were like a skating rink all the way past Delta, where it was 28 degrees and raining. South of Delta it was snowing like crazy and the roads had 3-4" of unplowed snow nearly to Glennallen, and then patchy ice to Valdez.

Down here it's 36F and drizzling. Might be in the low 40s tomorrow. No snow on the ground.

Last night it took three tries to get up the road to my driveway, kept sliding backwards. Finally decided to drive in the ditch to get up, that worked great.

Just read that Anchorage schools are closed again tomorrow, Wednesday.

I'll see you that and raise you Bogard road.

My 4WD truck was crawling down towards Lucille...I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw a car coming toward me across the road. Well, then, without touching the accelerator or the brakes...and also without warning, my truck first went across the road, THEN, did a neat little turn so that the ass-end was going in the direction I had been going. Finally, I got it into a driveway, put it into PARK. About a minute later the thing SLID about a foot. I almost had a heart attack.

I know I am being so self-centered, but I canNOT believe my luck at having the 2 days before Thanksgiving off. Let's worry about those make-up days in May :-)
