Goodmorning,

We are 4 guys from the Netherlands, and wel like snowboard vacations, without the wives.
This year we will go to WY - Jackson Hole. Hopefully next year Alaska. About Alaska we have some questions;

-1- Is Alaska prepared voor wintersport, like Jackson Hole? We have seen such beautifull Alaska pictures, we have to try this!

-2- Which airport we have to take, and to which area you recommend us?

-3- Do we have to rent a car, or is there a shuttle bus?

-4- Which period? For the best snow etc.

-5- Other positive things you can tell us?

Many thanks in advanced, like to hear from you soon, and perhaps untill next year!!!
( Merry X mas & and a good 2010 btw)

Rob

Welcome. Skiing at the Alyeska Resort about 30 miles south of Anchorage is the traditional ski place. You can also arrange for Heli Skiing where the helicopter drops you off on the top of a mountain and you go down. You can board it or ski it. It can be dangerous so you must be good in snow. Ice climbing is another activity as well as snowmobiling. You can do both near Anchorage.

Fly into Ted Stevens Airport in Anchorage.

I would suggest January or February.

The Iditarod happens early March if you want to see the dog race.

I am sure there are many opinions here which can get you hooked up with activities............

Happy Holidays from Alaska

i'd recommend coming in march so that you'll have enough daylight to enjoy the snow and make the most out of your trip. maybe time it to come at the end of the fur fondy so you can check out the beginning of the iditarod before heading to girdwood?

If you like running groomed slopes then Alyeska is about your only option. Now if you like running back country powder then there are a huge amount of options available to you. Head on over to Valdez and pay for a snocat or helli to take you back in the back country. That is assuming that you are avalanche aware and back country smart. Oh, you can take helli's out of Alyeska (Girdwood, AK) as well
