My impressions are good so far, although I've only been here a day and have spent that car shopping. I've found everyone to be very helpful and friendly so far. Its cold!! But not as bad as I thought it would feel, -17 today and I was out and about in jeans, boots, sweater and a wiggys jacket and was comfortable just running around town. I'm going to the grocery store tonight so I'll see how the prices are once I get there, I did go to subway for lunch and the cost was $1.00 more for a footlong than in Illinois. The meal was $2.00 more than in Illinois, not too bad. I guess so far I'd say I love it! I start work at the hospital on Monday so I have a few days to check things out and I'll keep everyone posted.

The cold lacks the humidity so it doesn't feel as bad as you would expect. Once it gets below -30 it feels kind of painful. Hope you like your job, and check out the groceries at the Walmart. Once they opened the Supercenter in Anchorage, all of a sudden the regular prices at Safeway mysteriously dropped too. Hmmm.

I like the apartment, its only about a block from the hospital, its hospital owned so I can stay four months then I have to get my own housing, part of the deal I worked with the hospital. The internet seems really slow, is that the way it is or is there maybe something wrong with my laptop?
I went to Fred Meyers and got some things and some groceries, prices are fairly average, but I've lived in Hawaii and US Virgin Islands and those places are very expensive. Raisin Bran in USVI $9/box, Fairbanks raisin bran,$2.69/box. HUGE difference, so I guess I don't really get sticker shock wherever I am since I've traveled so much. If you want to live somewhere you learn to deal with it. But where did all those people come from that were also shopping, the place was packed! I felt like I was shopping in a big city....LOL
I'm finding suv prices not too terribly bad considering you don't have to pay sales tax. Will continue looking for something tomorrow.
Have to keep reminding myself to UNPLUG vehicle before I drive away! I don't want to embarass myself.....LOL

I've seen a few vehicles dragging an extension cord down the road in my day! You wouldn't be the first! I've even seen a few pull away from the gas pump and rip the hose right off the pump!

Well, it looks like Schipol Airport in Amsterdam will be doing full body scans on folks flying to the US. This should be fun times. Fortunately I have no metal body parts.
