I am thinking of moving to AK in the next few years. I am researching areas to live. Does anyone have information on the liberal/hippy towns in AK? I think Homer may be one. Please give any information you may have, including Anchorage info. thanks!

LOLOLOLOL. Sorry OP.

Homer may be one. Talkeetna is one. Juneau, to an extent. Girdwood. I think that in Anchorage you can find all sorts of people.

i've heard that about girdwood but never experienced it.

you might find that hippies are a bit different in alaska. and so are the non-hippies. some of the non-hippies live a lot more peacefully and closer to the land than the hippies. you might be surprised.

What do you mean by, "hippy"? The drug and free sex craze of the late '60s and '70s?

Perhaps you won't find a town in Alaska with such "happy" people, but pockets of then every here and there, much like a pocket of swingers and such.

Default Fairbanks area

You might check out the small town of Ester (a few miles west of Fairbanks), which is sort of a liberal enclave.
Ester is considered one of Fairbanks' bedroom communities. Pretty small (~2,000) but the whole Fairbanks area is 100k+. Not sure what kind of housing would be available in Ester.
Also the nearby Goldstream Valley northwest of Fairbanks. These areas are near the Univ. of Alaska campus and attract the liberals in the community.
But recognize you'll be in the minority in the Fairbanks area, which overall is pretty conservative.

Default More on Ester

To learn more about Ester, if you're interested, check out Community of Ester, Alaska, John Trigg Ester Library, Republic Home and Republic Welcome. It's a pretty tiny community but certainly meets the liberal/hippy label.
