If I remember my history correctly I think most of their gun fighters at the Alamo were Tennessee Volunteers who went West just to be able to get into a fight. I know for a fact that a school teacher from Maryville, Tennessee was one of those people who went to Texas and became a Texas Governor. What's his name Sam Houston maybe? And wasn't Davy Crockett also from East Tennessee? Gee many of the Texas Heroes came for the same place and it wasn't Texas. Come to think of it where was James Bowie and his bad a** knife from?

Well, it was Mexico at the time. So many of the men who fought for Texas in the Revolution were born or raised outside of Texas, including of course, some of the incredibly brave defenders of the Alamo - of whom only a dozen or so came from TN with Crockett, btw. But what land did they die defending, and where did men like Houston (our President, not just Governor) decide to stay? Most people in Texas at that time were born elsewhere because it was in the process of being settled - something I'd expect people from "the last frontier" to understand. That was a time when Texas was a magnet for brave, risk-taking young men looking to fight for freedom or make a fortune. Unfortunately it's mostly Californians moving there now.

Jim Bowie was raised next door in Louisiana. We're cool with them. They cook good food!

I'm a Texan born and raised, lived there my whole life and I used to think it was home - until I stepped off the plane in Anchorage! Sounds like a love at first sight thing, so it probably literally wasn't like that - probably took a week or so until I really knew - but that's the way I like to remember it anyhow.

We saw the shirts at Mike's booth at the weekend market - I thought they were great! Bryan was going to buy one, but couldn't find the blue color he wanted in his size, will pick one up Sunday most likely, or next weekend - I believe the market goes on all summer.

The picture below shows Alaska's most famous con artist until you know who came along and took her circus of con artists to the lower 48.
