Default Looking at Juneau and worried

My husband's interviewing for a job in Juneau and we are from a small border town in Texas. Juneau looks beautiful but I'm a bit worried. Can someone answer these questions?
1. Are people open and friendly? Here, if you were not descendent from an original settler (practically) you are an "outsider."
2. Are there things to do other than movie theaters?
3. What are the high schools like?

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Wow. Things to do in Juneau.

!. Fish to your heart's content. Salmon, halibut, rockfish, trout.

2. Ski in winter.

3. Camp in summer.

4. Simply drink in nature's wonders: Mendenhall Glacier, fjords, Auke Bay

5. Take a day trip on the ferry to any of the surrounding islands and live out everyone's dream.

6. Climb a mountain (or three).

7. View the eagles nesting

8. Take a picnic at one of the old canneries

Whatever you can do in Texas, is available in Juneau with side benefits. It's too pretty to pass up, and the weather might be rainier than TX, it's definitely prettier, even when it rains.

I could write a 1000 word essay, but I'll give you the cliff notes....

The only attitude you're gonna have to deal with is the one you bring with you.
And the high school is excellent. Kids get bored here just like everywhere else, but kids also mature faster here.
Hell, firearms safety and the hunters safety course is taught in the 6th grade. At the school. Including range time (by volunteer instructors).
Keep an open mind, and the WORSE THING you can do is go around mouthing "well, this ain't the way we do it back in ("insert state of your choice here").

I had the glorious opportunity to visit Juneau last May. What a blast! As soon as people heard I was an 'outsider' they immediatly offered advice on where to go, what to do, etc. Juneau will definately see me again!

Default Thanks ...

Thanks for the replies. They help set me at ease.

I look at the pictures and can tell that the place is filled with "soul" (for lack of a better word) that is often missing from suburban environments. I am definitely looking for a place like that and am not worried about it "not being like ...." New and different is an adventure.
