Why? People reap what they sow. Besides, my advice was good.

Your time outs are kinda fun anyway..........................

Yeah, they do. I've actually done a lot of camping in bear country, just not brown bear country. The black bears of the Sierra Nevada are really brazen, and you can't leave anything out. You even have to be careful cooking over a fire as the grease from the meat will draw them near. I always err on the side of caution, and wouldn't even consider doing such a thing in grizzly country. Heck, ALL food and trash will be in ziplocks inside a cooler in the cab of the truck.

Actually, you should set up your cooksite aways downwind from where you're be sleeping.

And I probably know more about living in the Alaskan wilderness than you'll ever know in your life. My last post certainly attests to that. I haven't forgotten any of it, either. Good luck to ya when you come up though and I hope you find a job.

Wrong. In the backcountry, your cooksite is nowhere near where you'd be sleeping. Winds change.

I believe I stated that your cooksite should be set up aways from where you'll be sleeping and not that it should be anywhere near that. Winds certainly change but in most parts of AK the prevailing winds will be coming from a primary direction. In the upper Lynn Canal, for instance, 99% of the time you'll be dealing with a north wind.

It'll help you to know the predominant weather/wind patterns of the areas you plan on visiting.

Is this something you're hoping happens? Truly, I do not want a Grizzly wandering into my campsite. That's why I will take every precaution I can to avoid such an encounter. I am under no illusions that they aren't more than twice the size of any bear I have ever seen in the wild, though I've only seen a handful in all my years camping. I honestly cannot even say how I would react if such a situation presented itself. My goal is no bears up close- ever.
