What are you even talking about? Poor Joao Junior was attacked by cynics and more or less called an idiot by several, not me. Who is hassling who, who mentioned moderators and reporting threads, and who is dropping by now to be the self appointed "thread police"? My only "thread policing" advice for my last few threads was this - who cares, it's not important? Let's get back on topic.

And for Joao Junior wherever you are - I've spent some time in Brazil and know a few expats. Send me an IM maybe I can help hook you up.

I guess these non sequiturs are helping him by keeping this thread bumped up.

Nothing wrong with using the term idiot. I'm educated but there are times I can be an idiot. A newlywed wanting to go somewhere alone could be considered an idiot. They are newly wed and may not understand marriage yet.

However, upon further reading and understanding the link was safe for work, there is possibly an English language barrier with communication.

My advise is to look elsewhere for employment opportunities. Last link I clicked here at C-D sent me to a porn site (the bear stats link) so I automatically assume broken English thread with link= NSFW.

I don't think you understand. You have no right to dictate to others how they post or impose your subjective interpretation of the TOS on them. As far as poor Joao Junior being attacked by cynics, you were the one screeching at him in all caps not to "hijack" posts.

BTW, anyone ever tried this recipe for baked salmon?

Ingredients
12 ounce salmon fillet, cut into 4 pieces
Coarse-grained salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Toasted Almond Parsley Salsa, for serving
Baked squash, for serving, optional
Toasted Almond Parsley Salad:
1 shallot
1 tablespoons red wine vinegar
Coarse grain salt
2 tablespoons capers, rinsed
1 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley
1/2 cup toasted almonds
Extra-virgin olive oil

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Season salmon with salt and pepper. Place salmon, skin side down, on a non-stick baking sheet or in a non-stick pan with an oven-proof handle. Bake until salmon is cooked through, about 12 to 15 minutes. Serve with the Toasted Almond Parsley Salad and squash, if desired.
Toasted Almond Parsley Salad:
Mince the shallot and add to a small bowl. Pour the vinegar over the shallots and add a pinch of salt. Let sit for 30 minutes.
Roughly chop the capers, parsley and almonds and add to the shallots. Add the olive oil, tasting as you go. Mix again and adjust the seasonings.

Did this twice and worked both times. If you have a particular set of skills like human resources, etc. The pay is really good. Most places offer food and housing for $200-400 a month. On the weekend you can drive into any town and start applying.

Works every time. Have done this, and some friends have as well over the years. Sometimes they stick out the job till the end for a sign on bonus and wait to find a job. However this is not advised and would suggest using them as a stepping stone.

Did this for bot Alaska and Montana years ago. One job in Alaska payed about $15 an hour in Denali and drove into Anchorage a few times. A friend landed a job within a couple weeks and he was set. In Montana the job was even better and provided free room and board in a 4 star room because of my experience. The over all package was worth about $30 an hour when everything was factored in. Really regret leaving that gig, however never would've met my wife if I stayed.

Not yet. It sounds tempting. But it would quickly be. $100 filet when the king salmon used was free.

The problem is that while the unemployment situation in Alaska may be a little better than where you live, it's still high. Also, you still would have to get in front of the line of people equally or more qualified for the job than you and your husband, and these people have been in Alaska for a while if not years already.

In my view, the average woman matures a lot sooner than the average man (me included), and you are being very wise by not moving here before you have a job secured. Alaska is not a place you want to move to without having enough money to return to the place you are planing to leave.
------
What I have noticed of most employers (private sector) lately is that hiring is mostly part-time. Maybe the idea of hiring part-time is to avoid having to provide you with health insurance. By having you work 20 to 30 hours per week (not 40 hours), the employer can save a lot of cash. It's the same even if you are hired through the unions. For example, as a union-hired employee, my wife only receives insurance benefits at 96 hours per month. She still pays $41.00 for union fees each month, even if she does not work the 96 hours required
Even having a job "secured" does not really mean much here becasue we are an at-will state. I have seen people hired on and then let go 3-6 months later because someone in management either was not honest about the fact that the job was a short time gig or they drasticly screwed up on their estimates for how many people they would need full time permentant. These sorts of situations are not happening every day but they are not rare either.

Also getting an offer that is in alignment with the cost of living up here can be an issue. Anchorage is typically in the top 10 for most expensive cities in the USA, so what you think might be good money most likely isent unless you are from the handful of more expensive places or you have penciled out the cost of living. The great majority of the cost of living in anchorage is real estate/rent. You will hear people on here whine about gas tax or the cost of an apple or what ever and while yes there are shipping costs the rent prices are what will eat your lunch if you are not being properly compensated at your job.

Unfortunatly becasue we are at-will I have found companies are not willing to write individual contracts for a minimum of a year, I have been cold called for jobs opprotunieis and even then they are not willing to write a contract so why on earth would I do it unless I were so desperate I was starting to stave to death.

Its a huge risk if you dont have any significant family up here or some other significant stake in the state because its expensive to get here and expensive to leave if something goes awry.

The other snag is that Anchorage is really the only economic center in Alaska (outside of remote work in extreme conditions away from family for 2 weeks at a time or the hand full of good jobs in the valley which you have a better chance of winning the lotery than getting a job in the valley that pays over 6 figures). Maybe fairbanks has a few jobs but that is almost like being in another state (as well as the pan handle). So if something goes awry in Anchorage you are pretty much left with leaving state or taking on a life style that you or your husband may not like (remote work).

Some couples the husband will take a job and the wife will stay back to make sure the job is lagit but being separated for 6 months or more with sporatic trips back and forth is not my idea of a good time, I did not get married to be single but some people do it, I think its wierd.
