Default Guns, Guitars, and all that Jazz..

This week sometime I should find out if I will be getting the job in Wasilla that I'm hoping for. I'm totally on pins and needles with anticipation, trying to remain cautiously optimistic without getting my hopes up too high. If it's meant to be it will happen. If not, there's always Plan B.

Anyway, while I am waiting to hear I continue to make plans for the logistics of the move so I'll be ready in case it is a go.

My husband has several hunting rifles he'll be taking up. All three moving companies who came to give us quotes say they should not be transported in the container. So what is the best way?

Handsome man is still debating whether to take the ferry to Haines and drive up to Wasilla from there or go up the Alcan the whole way. Does Canada even allow folks to carry guns? What about the ferry?

Next issue - Handsome man also has several guitars to transport, a couple of which are worth a bit of money. The standard insurance with the moving company that goes by weight wouldn't even come close to covering so we have to figure out how much risk to take and how much money to cough up in extra coverage just in case. Any thoughts? (Although, truth be told, I do NOT want to be anywhere in the vicinity if something bad happened to Handsome Man's Martin no matter how much some insurance company might be willing to pay out. That is just not a picture I want to be part of!)

Lastly, above mentioned Handsome Man also has several "Dead Things" to take with him. (He is an amateur taxidermist). I am pretty sure I can handle packing the little things (quail, chucker, several fish) but the bigger pieces like the javelina, the salmon and steelhead, the pheasants in flight, and the deer and antelope head are more of a challenge. Anybody out there have experience moving deer mounts? Any tips?

I think you can ship the guns. Travelling with guns through Canada will be a royal pain in the butt. However travelling with them on the ferry. All they do is lock them up till you get to your destination, I think. That might be only for people carrying them on.

I personally think the ferry is the nicest way to go. But if you enjoy driving, the Alcan is also awesome. I just happen to prefer being on the water.

Board the ferry to Haines at Prince Rupert rather than Bellingham and save a ton of money. The drive to Rupert from anywhere in the lower 48 is very easy

Forget taking rifles through Canada....there is a ton of paperwork and then a fee...no handguns period

Seems we've gone through this several times here...do a search

Check at your PO about sending firearm via the USPS...might have someone mail them up to you once you are located here

They can also be shipped via a local FFL licensed dealer..used to be they shipped to an FFL in your community where you are moving to for pick up there
