I've found Sunrise, Sunset Calendars and Local Time to be useful for determining how many hours of daylight there will be in a given place when I travel. Here's a specific page for all the Alaska cities that they have:
Location Selection for Sunrise Sunset Calendar This'll tell you sunrise/sunset/twilight/moonrise/moonset and so forth, though if you want to know specifically how light it's gonna be, I'd imagine weather is a major factor that is much less predictable up there. It's too bad they don't have non-U.S. locations; it'd be fun to look up Alert, Nunavut (the northnmost settlement in Canada) and see exactly how many days of 24-hour sunlight they get per year. I know it's even more extreme there than it is in Barrow. |

Most portable GPS units have a sunrise and sunset function built in somewhere back there in the pages you never use. Might be worth a read through the owners manual if you can still find it.
BTW Rance, as far as the powered parachute things goes whatever keeps the rocks out of the prop has gotta be a good idea. Not too much between you and the spinning meat chopper under ideal circumstances, let alone if things go wrong and you crack a blade or something. My brother in law here keeps trying to get me up in his rig, but I keep finding excuses why I can't. Been flying for over 20 years now and never needed a parachute so far, trying to keep it that way. ![]() |

You gotta try it. Actually pretty smooth in calm air. That particular sail will lift over 600 lbs. It's amazing!
