Well, the first thing to understand is that those old missionaries did the wrong thing, but they did it for the right reason! Dancing is indeed demon worship, there's no two ways about it! Some missionaries just never learned enough of the local languages to understand that... :-)
This is a picture of "just people, dancing" as opposed to the usually seen practiced dance groups that give stage performances. These people are literally dancing on the ugruk skins that once covered their crew's boat.
The old fellow with his back to you, using a cane, is Warren Matumeak. I think he was 79 when the picture was taken.
