Default Need information about Kodiak

Could anyone give me information about Kodiak? We are planning a move there in several months. So any and all information you could give me would be great. I have lots of questions like........weather, cell phones, housing, cost of utilities, cost of food, just to name a few.

Default Some info about Kodiak

Weather - it rains a lot, except in the winter then it snows.

Cell phone - yours probably won't work here but there are several places that you can get one that does.

Housing is pricey a good place to start is Associated Island Brokers - no affiliation btw

Everything is expensive, Kodiak is one of the highest cost of living areas in the nation.

You can get here by boat/ferry or by flying - there is no road to the mainland.

Couple of links that might be helpful

Chamber of commerce: Kodiak Island, Alaska - Official Visitors Guide

Our paper: KodiakDailyMirror.com :: Daily newspaper of Kodiak, Alaska

Lets see we got lots of coffee shops and bars. We have a Safeway and a Wal-mart

One McDonalds, no Burger King, two Subways, one movie theater (two shows a day), a library, a two year college, a bunch of asian restaurants. About 25 churches

There is a lot do on this island and you can stay busy but not a lot is posted - you just start asking.

If you like photography this is the place to be.

See you when you get here
