What if you were to meet a wild rooster instead?

Again come on over.. depeding where you will be it is cheap fares - pretty much and you will be warm = ok Hot. Depending on where your going. It is good times, good aloha on the Big Island. If going to Oahu hmm that would depend. I love the Hawaiian Islands, just not city.

Plenty of wild roosters!

Yeah, the brown tree snake seriously messed up Guam and some other places.

Hawaii's got plenty of trouble with feral pigs and other non-natives, they sure don't need snakes.

Depending on what you are going to be too hot in. The higher elavation the cooler the temp. May should be fine as the rains haven't really hit this year. Last night got cold! Everyone bundled up in shoes, socks, pants, coats. It went down to 59 degrees!

Again depending on where you go will decide the temp. For example here on Big Island the normal temps through winter on Hilo side is up to 65-78 degrees maybe 82 in summer. This winter been warmer as most Dec, Jan, Feb got up to 82 some days. Kona side usally stays 78 degrees to 84. May should be around those temps.

The rains usually go away in April although this year haven't had much rain period. Actually been draught. The last couple weeks been cooler on Hilo side. Kona side I believe hasn't had over a couple inches this year.

Then you can go to Valcanoe and it is 60's and down into the 50's at night. The snow on Mauna Kea dissapeared in December and hasn't been back due to lack of rain this year. Waimea is normal in 60's up to low 70's.

Each island has the basic weather pattern. Closer to water warmer and more wind, higher up cooler, a wet side and a dry side. There is always shade (almost) and wind to some degree to cool it down with small occassional shower. The water temp I believe is 74 to 76 degrees lately.

Again it depends on what island and what side of island. Good luck and Aloha!

OK, I am going to Kona I think, and in May. But I'll only be there for a few days. Then I am going somewhere else for a week or so.

How come I can't get a flight out of FBs at a civilized hour?

I am going to fly to Portland and then to Hawaii from there.

Kona town is a fun little tourist town. Nothing like Honolulu. I go over couple days a month. The flight from Portland is my favorite. Portland airport is nice and small enough to get around with being lost or constant bumping into people. It will be (or shoud be) really dry. Only problem with Kona is the vog - not always but ..sulfer from the valcanoe. If winds are right it blows it over to this side.

It should be in low 80's for temp. Good white sand beaches on Kona side.. the rest insland all lava and desert looking area. If it gets voggy and you dont' like it just drive north. It should dissapear.

Let me know what kind of food you like and I will send you in right direction. Or what you would like to do.
