Hey you guys, I was wondering if there was any work available for the season? I just turned 20 today, I know relatively nothing about this industry but I'm ready to learn. I'm just looking for some decent money and save so I can finish my degree, I figured I would give this a shot. Thanks in advance for any advise, Gene

Get a one way ticket to Dutch Harbor, they hire deckhands off the dock, just like on the Discovery Channel. You'll be fine.

Don't buy a one way ticket.

The fishing isn't the same as it used to be, you'd make more money working somewhere near you. Unless you like sliming fishes.

Many of the canneries down in Dutch just had their job fair for the summer season up here in Anchorage last week. I don’t remember exactly for what though, Halibut, Pollock…

I would not recommend coming up here without having something lined up first however. You can check places like these, though I suspect they are scam sites set up to separate wannabe deckhands from whatever cash they happen to have.
