Default Pet Friendly

I am wandering if I can get some help here. My job is taking me to Anchorage and I am trying to find an apartment that allows large dogs. I have a German Shepard and am having a heck of a time finding a place online that allows anything over 25lbs. Thanks.

Default not an expert, but....

my son recently relocated to Anchorage and was looking for a place that allowed dogs, though theirs is small (15#).

his experience was that you're better off trying to rent a place from an individual or a small complex, and discussing the "pet" issue on the phone or in person to explain your circumstances. He ended up with a 3BR 2Bath duplex with a fenced yard. It seems his best leads were thru craigslist. You might consider housing other than an apartment - such as a mobile home or a duplex. You didn't state a price range - but you should expect to pay a hefty pet deposit as well as your rent.

also, since the fire yesterday at Park Place, I would bet that there's a higher demand for rental units in Anchorage.

Good luck!

I'm in Eagle River outside Anchorage, and the previous poster is correct. Apartment rents are very high and pets can be an issue. A duplex or 3-4-plex is probably your best bet. Try rentclicks.com and search all rental options, not just apartments. There are a lot of multi-family rental homes here as opposed to traditional apartment complexes. Greatland Realty also handles rentals, and I think Remax does as well. If you're looking to buy, right now the market is the best for buyers it's been in years (I know, I'm trying to sell.) Avoid Spenard and Mountain View for safety reasons. Good luck, and welcome to the Last Frontier. (Watch out for airplane-sized mosquitoes - they'll carry you off if you're not careful!)
