HELLLOOOO.....

You don't even live here yet and you get it.

Some of up here have been SCREAMING this at the top of our lungs for quite some time now, but our state legislators are about as usefull as Man-boobs on a Chinese Farmer. They have been too busy with "Marmot Day Holiday" and "Alaska State Song" legislation to be bothered with boring stuff like jobs and the economy.

State energy tax overhaul is looking unlikely, lawmakers say: Legislature | adn.com

Drill baby, Drill! Im pleasantly surprised that the POTUS went in this direction. Maybe he realizes it would be good for the economy if we were more self sustainable in energy.

I guess they are also busy chasing away our Cruise ships with increased taxation.

I doubt this is going to amount to anything but smoke and mirrors. Obama is up to his Butt in Poo, and this is nothing but a deversionary attempt to make him look like he gives a hoot about American's and what they pay at the pump, to heat their house and electric costs...

Would love to see them start drilling at home instead of giving billions away to Countries that don't like us at all. Not to mention we are making them rich and well armed...

This means nothing for Alaska, and it's highly dubious if it will mean anything for the nation as a whole. The fine print seems to be saying he is open to more studies to determine the feasability of drilling in these areas. In other words, more make-work to keep government hacks employed doing endless studies in perpetuity (on the taxpayer dole of course), while the real economy continues to whither on the vine.
You are correct. It means nothing to Alaska. Also, some of the largest natural gas and oil deposits are found in the Golf Of Mexico. China and Russia will be working these areas very soon. In fact, China is going to drill offshore for Cuba, and it would be very easy for them to tap on the deposits in the Golf of Mexico.

After reading over what he said some more, I am also convinced this is just another political smoke screen. Most of the so called "approvals" won't go into effect until 2012 - 2014 (sound familiar?), and lifting many of the bans/moratoriums also requires Congressional approval. This is likely just a ploy to win over Republican support for his Global Warming schemes ("I gave you OCS now you give me Cap and Tax"), after which the Congress will conveniently fail to lift the moratoriums. And even if all the approvals/permits do actually get issued someday, Obama knows darn well the enviro-kooks will continue to keep things tied up in court in perpetuity with endless strings of frivolous lawsuits. So in effect, he can say he supported off-shore drilling, while knowing nothing real will ever happen.

Could well be, most of what we're fed is deceptive and propaganda into your beliveing how you'll be better off with this and that, we're doing this for you / the US. Thinking Nafta among others.

Arctic is pretty much ice free now, pipe line is failing, Canada has been building special ice tankers for the NW passage. US was late in claiming offshore rights, also could be planning a offshore loading terminal for tankers, no more pipe line. Maybe a refinery too, more cruise ships coming up there that need a place to pull into and refuel. Till the spill. Could be China want some of the debt we owe paid up in oil, the great one bow's - we are one master. It's a throw up ! either way.

Trust that there is a great deal of boating that goes on here long before July, and long after you've left in October too.

If there was, we would be the ones doing it..... It is all Oil Company stuff we do!

First in, Last out!

Guys dragging a 15' Kayak out don't count, they can go for miles on the ice for an open lead, which of course, will close up if the wind shifts!
