Default Credit Card, Wells Fargo Finacial Bank and Big Brother

;sorry its lengthy.....

so I travel to SF today and rent a car and check into the hotel. at the hotel desk my credit card flags and she says she has to call the bank. ok no worries probably for my protection. Jenny from WF Financial Bank gets on the line says it flagged because i rented a car and a hotel out of my home area. I say well Jenny that is generally what people do when they travel. I say so when I change states on a trip you want to call you and let you know I am travelling (polite) and she says yes. I say well Jenny is that so atypical as to stop an activity. she says we are loaning you this money...I ask her to take the gum out of her mouth and ask for her super. she says "FINE".

Next is Kyle who tells me that they are within their rights and I say since you have forgotten who the customer is and other things he says do you want me to release the hold on the account so the hotel can charge the card. i say not needed already charged and he says that is impossible and i say well apparently Marriott knows what customer service is...and he liked stunned that it went through..... and then I hear this beep every 5 seconds and I ask Kyle are you recording this call (which is ok with me) and he says no then he hears the beep and comes unglued freaks saying to me to turn off the recording and I say not me doing it dude, must be Marriott. I almost used the line from Taken "i have a very particiular set of skills aquired over a long career that make me a nightmare for people like you" but instead I say. Kyle youre f'n with the wrong cowboy and he is still freakin about the recording......that was funny.

has anyone else been told to call in when you are changing states? I mean going to another country I can see (I plan to followup with someone with a brain on Monday) note Wells Fargo Bank is Not Wells Fargo Financial............anyway thanks for reading....vent halfway done.

Yes, my company card got flagged at the AVIS desk last month in Denver. I had to call in to get it authorized.

What a bunch of crap! And if you are carrying a large wad of cash they can detain you at airport security (I'm remembering some news story from last summer, guy had $3-4K on him). Guess I'll just be staying home.
I personally won't deal with Wells F'in Fargo - about 2 years ago they put an 11 day hold on my paycheck because it was substantially larger than usual -bunch of freakin' idiots. Husband keeps the account for his running around money - puts money in it if he wants to buy something off ebay or junk like that - we usually keep only 2-3 bucks in the free account. I hope we are costing them money.

When we moved up to AK a few years ago, hubby's was flagged for spending too much buying gas in Canada (both Wells Fargo and Wells Fargo Financial). When we came down here last summer, we both called and told them we were going to be out of the state and where. My card was flagged twice within 2 weeks here as I sit with groceries and what not in line and having to call the bank to go through 2 weeks of charges to verify they were mine...stopped when I changed the address (with the cell phone going dead mind you). But the other is my son when he got out of the army and moved to MN, his was cut off after he got home...Wells Fargo again. I'm not sure if all banks do this, but it's probably a good idea to call and let them know if you are 'moving' around outside your normal area. I would imagine with online banking now, that most banks would or should do this for the customer's sake.

so you're all pissed off because banks have put in more stricter security measures to protect themselves on your "unsecured loan" (which is what a credit card is).....

get a grip...and be grateful....

In all honesty they are loaning you their money. They have a vested interest in making sure there is no fraudulent activity on the card. I'm friends with some investigators that work for a major credit card company. When they start talking about how much the banks lose due to credit card fraud I'm not surprised that they are doing these temporary holds. As the economy continues to sink I think you'll see more holds placed on credit cards until they can verify the activity. I guess if you don't like it you could always pay cash.

You seemed to be perfectly fine with Obama telling you what to do.

well techically they have a product which they are asking me to pay for (through interest and fees) and their product line includes many products many of which require up front credit checks etc and agreements in writing. i think that should be enuf..... How many companies do you know that prohibit you from using their products once you leave the store?
