Gotta wonder who the hell is telling people this sort of thing. It crops up in this forum pretty consistently.

Isn't that great? There are people out there who are true believers of fairy tales. I also heard Snow White and dwarfs still are permanent residents of the national parks in Alaska, especially in the backcountry of Denali. And they refuse to cash their permanent funds checks or live in cabins built for them by the State of Alaska. They prefer tundras. That's what I heard.

Don't forget the gold nuggets sticking out of the ground in Girdwood. Don't people use them to border their gardens?

Default and other fairy tales

I'll bet it's that McCandless thing again, that movie is gonna get at least another half a hundred idiots killed, you mark my words... Either that or this supposed "best friend" is so gullible and disconnected with reality that he thinks the Simpsons Movie is gospel.

As far as the sunshine/gloom ratio goes, well... it makes you appreciate it all the more when the sun actually DOES come out!

Personally, I've come to consider the relentless sun and heat of the desert SW to be more and more oppressive over the years. I kinda like it when it's grey out at least part of the day and you don't have to live in sunscreen all the time.

I was sitting in class today and this big ole' ray of sunshine suddenly starts shining on my table. I swear to god, people *gasped*. We actually stopped class for a moment just to look at it!

I was at Comp USA in Anchorage last year, and all the employees went to the front window to admire the sun. They hadn't seen it in a while, apparently.

Wink Moving back

my husband and I lived in Haines from 1989 to 1995. We moved back to Tx for family reasons but this last year or so we've been talking about coming back. Obviously, we already know a few things...you don't find empty cabins to "squat" on park lands, there is a summer, and the question 'how far above seal evel are we?' depends an whether it is high or low tide (at least along the Lynn canal). We've been looking at Homer, Petersburg/Prince of Wales, and Ketchican areas on line. I'd love some responses by locals. Or even semi-locals.
