I live within walking distance of Truman Lake in Missouri. My gravel road dead ends into it. I've been in MO for 15 years - ended up here at Mizzou because I couldn't afford the moving cost to UAF (2 cats and furniture) from central FL. Now I'm an online/distance student at UAF and desperate to leave MO for AK. Nice to know I'm not the only one!

I too am from Missouri; I had no idea so many people on this forum were from my area. Kind of nice to think about having that many Missouri people in AK for when I get all moved.

Default Akiak

so did you find Akiak to be a good village. Have you met your new counselor dianne Feray? She is the best counselor I've ever known.

LOL.....hmmm Dferay... yes I have met Dianne, and she is the best counselor ever, she's really a great person, lots of fun to be around, and always makes me laugh, even when the day has been a dud! What really makes her a great counselor though is she is crazier then the rest of us.. you can't feel too crazy when the counselor makes you seem sane . Seriously as far as Akiak goes, I love the village, there are ups and downs, but that is anywhere you go, the people over all are wonderful, honest people, we love it so much we have already signed our contract for next year and are planning on staying the summer!

I think the key to successfully living in a bush village is really simple, you must be able to adapt well, and not go in thinking you are going to make everyone and everything change to suit yourself.
