I don't think you Pi$$'d Floyd off (nice stories by the way Floyd love 'em!) Floyd is very matter-a-fact person. Seriously...there are soooo many people who post such things as you did and are COMPLETELY and utterly serious....they do not listen to experience people who have either lived in Alaska their whole lives or have lived there many many years....duhhhhh! Floyd's narrative proves this....next time spell out WINK WINK WINK!!! hahahaha... glad to see your headed up to live!!! Best wishes for a great new life in Alaska!

Smilies are wonderful things. But they are exceedingly ambiguous too. Read what blueflames50 said, that you quoted!

Life in Alaska is adventurous. That's why people come here, and that's why people stay here. And that's what makes it a dangerous place to live... where we have the highest death rate in the country from "accidents".

I'm not pissed off at you, I'm trying to keep you alive.

Since you are going to Kalskag, here's something that you'll find useful. Just be very respectful.
Download that image and keep it on your computer. After you've met a few folks in Kalskag, show it to a few older people and ask them to tell you about who Auntie Mary was. Tell them specifically that you were given the picture for that purpose.

Just be warned that I don't know if everybody or nobody in Kalskag has seen that image before. You could find that a copy of it is hanging on the walls of half the homes there, and you asking about it like that might seem sort of, well, stupid. The other side of the coin is that you might cause an awful lot of excitement that you actually have a copy of it.

Also, when you go to Aniak, visit the clinic. They probably have a copy of it there.

Please DO NOT PRINT the image from that file! I don't mind it being printed, but please ask for a file suitable for printing. That one is scanned from an original wet darkroom process print, and I can provide a higher resolution TIFF format image that would be suitable for printing.

You didn't p!$$ him of, that's the way he is naturally. Honestly, I wouldn't go around outside of this board dropping his name, unless stirring up controversy is your idea of making a good first impression. You are going to get some rather opinionated responses.

Insulting other people won't make you socially functional.

Once again Floyd, you only demonstrate that the "advice" given in your posts is actually meant for yourself. If you had read my post carefully, you would have noticed there is no insult, merely a statement of fact. Dropping your name in ceratin communities illicits strong opinions, both positive and negative. Because I don't know you personally, I refrain from making any judgement either way, and my post clearly did not endorse any opinion, or even suggest what they may be. I only stated that they exist. Depending on who he was speaking to, RDawg could either be making a friend, or unknowingly making an enemy. In any case, stirring up controversy in a small community is never a good way for an outsider to make an introduction.

But why take my word for any of this RDawg? My suggestion would be to pick up a phone book and make some calls up to Barrow and hear for yourself what people have to say. Call some local businesses, even call the borrough headquarters. Then make an informed decision for yourself.

More insults. The least you could do is be original, eh? That claim to calling someone in Barrow and getting information is what Starlight claimed... of course he never backed it up with any kind of specifics, just as you can't. That's because it's just a fabrication of your imagination...

Yes, arguing amongst yourselves is a great way to get around the bush.
