Thank you for the congratulations.
It may just be a district thing, not sure, my husband is the teacher. All I know is we have to be in Anchorage on August 2 for some sort of training.

Yupiit school district, we are heading to Akiak to live and can't wait to get started, but there is so much planning and organizing to cram into the next 3 months! We are moving myself and my husband plus our 3 boys, 2 girls, Yorkie, African Grey, and a cat. Driving the whole way from Missouri.

All the way to Anchorage anyways...lol.

I think the best salmon strips/dryfish comes from a great friend's family. The stuff is cured just right and it's so juicy. You will like Akiak and I see many trips to Bethel for shopping in your future.

I hope on one of those trips to Bethel I get the opportunity to meet you Warptman! I have to ask.. what are salmon strips/dryfish? Yes it would be just to Anchorage, but It seems we may be having a change of heart on the driving thing, the more we have figured, the cheaper flying is looking for us! We are getting some quotes on shipping the car into Anchorage, or do you think it would be smarter to ship it to say Bethel? We were told Anchorage so we have transportation when we are there, but it seems we are going to spend far more time in Bethel then in Anchorage.

Dried salmon strips. They hang them to dry for a few days and then smoke them for a few days, too. Good stuff.

By all means I'd drive up to Anchorage from where you are. Everyone must drive the Alcan at least once in their lifetime. I've done it 15 times now. I'm heading south at some point this summer to Montana to visit my brother.

If you ship it, might as well ship it to Bethel, we get a few barges here every summer. It's cheaper to ship by sea than by air. If you do ship it here, you can pick it up once the river is frozen and keep it in Akiak. It takes about an hour and a half to drive down from Akiak to here, and it's a fun drive.

I wouldn't recommend it...a 4x4 SUV or Truck would do the trick.
