Hi everyone I'm planning to move up to Juneau around July, 2007.
Please give me some general advices. I will go up there by myself with $2000 dollars to settle in the new city. Is that realistic? and is it easy to land a job up in Juneau, enough to live there?
You're not giving a whole lot of info...
- are you flying up?
- are you driving up?
- do you have a place to stay already lined up?
- do you have anyone up here expecting you?
- do you have access to more than 2 grand if need be?
$2000 may be pushing it, but you should be able to find -something-. It's really a matter of where in Juneau you live, and what you're looking for. Where I am, for example, I paid $900 for a security deposit, and am paying $775/month for a one bedroom place of ~550 sq. feet. General speaking, the closer to downtown you get, the cheaper housing prices get.
As for jobs, it all depends on what you want to do. If you don't mind retail, both Home Depot and WalMart are taking applications for various levels, from management all the way to stock boy. Both stores are supposed to open this summer (Home Depot at the end of June, I believe).
But as DannyL mentioned, it's hard to give much in the way of real advice without knowing a bit more... cause really, if you like camping, and don't mind living on ramen, you could live here for months on only $2000!
