I'm moving to Clifton Park with my family next month, and we are not familiar with the area and I'd love some help from people in the Albany area in knowing what kind of shopping options will be available.
I can see there's a reasonable amount of stores available in Clifton Park, and what I'd really be interested in getting in the car and making trip out of are warehouse clubs or really good and/or large outlet stores. When I went to Albany for my face-to-face interview, I heard someone mention a furniture outlet store in the area that was good, and I also hear about a BJs (never heard of it) and either a Sam's Club or Costco in the area.
Can people chime in with their reviews of the warehouse clubs in the area and any good outlet shopping that would be worth looking at? (We'll be moving from overseas, so it's cheaper to just give a lot away and rebuy it, so furniture, clothes, appliances...there's a lot we'd be interested in.)
There are BJ's Outlets in Colonie and Wilton (Saratoga) and there is a Sam's Club in Latham. Huck Finn's Warehouse in Albany could be the furniture store you heard about, but in my opinion, furniture is one of those things that your truly get what you pay for.
There are some outlets just north of Glens Falls (exit 20 off of the Northway) and in Lee Massachusetts (just past the NY border on I 90).
Costco hasn't made it into the capital area but there is one in Springfield, Massachusetts (about an hour West of Albany) and another ten miles south of Springfield in Connecticutt. I don't care of meat produce at BJ's, although Sam's Club is better. IMO Costco is a step up from both BJs and Sams. We take a ride every two months and stock the freezer. Also quality (clothes) is better at Costco and if you look at price per unit they are cheaper.
The Clifton Park Center has a good variety of stores for clothing, etc. I think it is better than the outlets in Lee, MA., depending upon what you are shopping for.
An hour east of Albany. But I'm sure that is what you meant.
Oops thanks for the correction! West...
