Default Hoping to move to Hoosick Falls or Vestal!

Hi All,

My husband and I are expecting our first baby, and we are looking to move to NY to be closer to his family (we are in Atlanta, GA now). Can anyone give us the low-down on Hoosick Falls? We are looking for places no more than 4 hours from NYC, and so far we have come up with Vestal and Hoosick Falls (Hoosick being our preference). I'm really curious to know about the areas, and also to get an idea of what to expect with the weather. Our baby is due January 1, and I need to know how to prepare. Winters aren't exactly long in GA Thanks for all the help!!

Default Another Ga. transplant

Hi, Quackers! I see you have no replies yet. Have you made your move?

I came here from Athens, GA in 1982 to work for IBM in Endicott, NY (across the Susquehanna River from Vestal). I'm still here, 25 years later.

I don't know anything about Hoosick Falls (in fact, I had to look it up on my map!), but I can recommend Vestal. It's a little cheaper over here in Central NY than it is in the Hudson Valley. Vestal has good schools, parks, shopping and nice neighborhoods. I think it's a terrific place to raise a family.

Hoosick Falls is an attractive little town, I think- I've passed through it many times and always thought it looked like it would be a nice place to live. Vestal seems more like a suburb of Binghamton to me, though I don't know it well, so it may have some nice places. Hoosick Falls has the advantage of being relatively close to Albany, though as the previous poster said, it'll probably be more expensive as its in the Hudson Valley area. If ease of getting to NYC is a prime concern, you'll have more options from the Hoosick Falls area (regular trains & buses from Albany/Schd'y). Driving or a tedious bus ride are the only options to the B'hamton area.
