It has started, because they already tore down the Madden Motel - which was housing for a ton of welfare people that were the problem of these activities. Unfortunately, they moved elsewhere in GF - because the crime hasn't stopped. For such a small little "city" such as Glens Falls, there is WAY too much crime. Do you live here? - because it's the talk around here all the time. People avoid Glens Falls now. Surprised you don't know this.

As for the Carolinas - between SC and NC - there are more than 3 metros.
A totally ignorant and misleading post, I like to move there, did a lot of research, all I can say you are wrong on all counts, why are they building all the high end real estate Condos? 600K on the upper floors, to stay away from the gangs...... really come back to reality, we all know there was a gang fight behind some bar early one morning,( a black eye fot the town) you ever walk on main street? Davisdsons, the new Crandall library, the Charles R wood center ? dude put down what you are smoking and step out in the light, catch a Phantoms game, then check out the Hyde Museum, have a brew at davidsons, and read the paper for free at the library! and then treat yourself to a Patagonia jacket at the new store in the circle ( make sure you save a Month worth of wages...)

A totally ignorant and misleading post? Actually, I am NOT wrong on all accounts. Let me be straight here, I am a NYS Trooper. I know just a little bit about the area, perhaps a little bit more and beyond what you read in the paper. My post most certainly is not ignorant, nor is it misleading. It's straight to the point without sugarcoating anything.

Yes, they built condos for 600k. Wow, great view they have - overlooking lovely South St. You want to know how many of those condos have gotten bought in the past few yeas? 2. TWO!! Using the condos to help your argument probably wasn't the best of ideas knowing that, huh? I've seen them, they are beautiful. You know what they say though - location, location, location. They lowered the prices, and they STILL can't get them occupied. Like you said though, the upper floors are to "stay away from the gangs". At least you admit a gang problem.

Speaking of gangs, it sounds as if you just read the paper, and actually aren't out in Glens Falls beyond 9pm. There is NIGHTLY gang problems in the area. Again, as a trooper - I see it every single night. What you see in the paper just scratches upon the surface.

Sure, the museum is nice, as is the library and Davidson Bros.. but you aren't mentioning anything unique or different that most other area's don't have. Most small cities have a library, a museum, a civic center, and a bar. Not sure what your point was to that. As for a Patagonia, I already have one (well, 2 to be exact) - your taxes pay for my salary, so thanks!

What kind of issues have there been with gangs in Glens Falls? I wonder if they are some small time guys just slinging some drugs or something. Maybe some guys coming up from bigger cities as well. You get that on occasion and usually it gets squashed early. If this is nightly, why hasn't this been nipped in the bud right away considering the small size of GF?

Gang problems?.....in comparison to where?....I was in town there this weekend....out walking morn/aft/evening, Sat and Sun...both north and south of the downtown bridge. Sorry, can't really say I felt too threatened.

I have kids, so I would like good schools, close to shopping and a hospital. I would like to know the average weather up there. Are the winters really bad? I'd like to make some friends, and talk to realtors before I come up to visit the area.

Any suggestions would be very helpful! Thank you.
This area has been in economic decline for nearly 30 years and it's not going to magically revert. Taxes are rising, the weather is miserable for 9 months out of the year.

There is an entire planet outside of this place so why would you want to subsist here?

You are correct on the condos. In fact so few have sold that they're now being leased as apartments.
