I'm a 25 year old woman looking for apartments in the Capital Region and I found one that looks really nice right near Powers Park in Lansingburgh/Troy. I grew up near Saratoga and I've heard some really shady things about both Lansingburgh and Troy, but I'm not sure if they're relevant anymore. I'm not usually afraid of cities, I've lived in quite a few (and in not the greatest parts)! I guess what you hear growing up just doesn't leave you.

There's much more information on the forums about Troy than there is about Lansingburgh. Any info (even streets that are dangerous, etc.) would be really helpful. Thanks so much in advance!

Unfortunately they are very much relevant. All you need to do is head over the Times Union and do a search to see for yourself.

'burgh is a TOUGH place for a man your age, and not an area I'd recommend you move to. I would look more towards the center of downtown (a good amount of newer construction in older/historic buildings) where most business is located and everything is within walking distance.

I lived on 4th Ave between 104th & 105th Streets, technically North Troy (still 12180) zip code but it was a nice area. I liked it and I'd like to move back if I could. Very middle class - not a wealthy area but the houses are still well maintained and taken care of. I walked my dog at night many times and never had any trouble. A pretty decent area and I'd definitely move back to escape NYC ( the winters were kind of rough, but loved it n the summer ) There is more action downtown but there was also a lot of events open to the public for free in the summer.

Try Southern Saratoga County, much safer there.
