My husband and I are thinking of relocating to the Saratoga area. We're coming from Rockland County. We're in our early 30's with a 5 year old and planning to expand our family shortly...so good schools are a big priority for us. We're hoping for 1/2+ acres of property, quiet family-oriented neighborhoods, we don't want to be right IN downtown Saratoga but we also don't want to be very far from food shopping, restaurants, etc. I'd also like to be within 15 - 20 minutes of either a mall or places like Home Depot/Lowes and other shopping places. During my own research I seem to keep coming across Wilton, Milton, Ballston Spa, Greenfield, and Burnt Hills a lot. Can anyone shed some light on which of these towns might be best suited for us? We're also very open to other suggestions beyond these towns.

Is there anything else you are looking for in a community, as it appears that you have multiple options that would fit.

Any chance you've looked through the other conversations her in the Albany thread about moving to the area? There are at least 5 other "moving to the area" threads from within the last 2 weeks. The Saratoga area and surrounding towns tend to be the most sought after, and discussed often and should give you some insight to your post.

Burnt Hills has the best schools out of all of those.

B. Spa is OK. Good value area, but not as good as Burnt Hills.
Wilton is very nice, but I don't know much about that area. Same with Wilton.

All I can tell you is the people in that area are great...there is no BS. Very hard working people that are from the area and love their community. Excellent schools all around.

You might also want to take a look at Scotia...they have award winning schools as well...and even though it is close to Schenecady, there is a bridge that keeps the AHOLES out of Scotia.

good luck!

Here is a list from Buffalo Business First that may help or give an idea in regards to schools, OP: Bethlehem, Niskayuna, Guilderland run 1-2-3 in Albany Area school district rankings - Buffalo - Buffalo Business First

2014 Albany Area school district rankings - Buffalo - Buffalo Business First

It appears that Saratoga Springs is the best in regards to the rankings and I believe that Wilton, Greenfield and parts of Milton are in that school district.

You really can't go wrong with the Saratoga area and the surrounding towns/villages. Safe area and it's always nice to live close to Saratoga.
