The average yearly salary in New York City is more than $10,000 higher than the average here in Albany.

But there are plenty of jobs that pay better here than they do there. Some even pay a lot more.

The most recent data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics found exactly 100 jobs in the Albany region pay better on average than they do in the Big Apple. Those 100 jobs cover a wide range of industries and required skill levels. You have surgeons and scientists, but also packagers, appliance repairers and machine workers.

The slideshow above highlights the 25 jobs that pay the best in Albany when compared to NYC.

One job you definitely won’t see on this list: Chief executive. CEOs are paid almost $103,000 less here on average, by far the biggest pay gap of any job.

This is very typical of Albany: take something on the surface and celebrate it and then wonder why Albany lacks so horrendously behind other places.

The answer is most of the professional jobs on the list are typically government employees, and in Albany, most will be executive state government positions.

Private sector jobs in Albany pay a pittance.
