Best and Worst areas of Saratoga Springs?
I am considering a move to Saratoga Springs in the coming months. I have read the numerous posts on the city and it seems like most folks really like it. What I would like to know is - in what parts of the city are best to rent (North, South, East, West, downtown...) and what areas should I avoid? I should also say that I have a 4 year old so I crime and schools have to be taken into consideration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was not being sarcastic when I posted this question. I just wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations on which part of town to live in. That's all. So to the clowns who gave the ridiculous answers thanks for nothing. If anyone has a legitimate respone, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have never been to Saratoga. But from what I understand, the "bad" areas of Saratoga would be the good areas in many upstate communities.

I haven't lived in Saratoga very long, but do not know of any bad areas. The town and outlying villages are lovely, the schools excellent and the people very friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful area with many activities and cultural events within reasonable distance.

I don't live in Saratoga, but 1/2 hour away, Schenectady. All of Saratoga is good. The real issue is the traffic and communting. And the traffic during Track Season.
I am not sure of all of the schools up there, but I believe most are pretty good, not the best in the capital district, but no where near the bottom. I would check with the NY State of Education with the State tests scores. The Times Union Newspaper publishes each year. You might find it through their website.
Saratoga is very beautiful. I don't think you could go wrong!
Good Luck!~

Damn, I missed it...
As you may have figured out, Big JP, there aren't really any "bad" areas of Saratoga Springs. It's a very wealthy town, and very family friendly. Your biggest danger might be getting run down by a speeding BMW on Rt 9. (Now don't delete me!)
I had dinner at the Olde Bryan Inn on Friday night. It's been around since the 1700's. Great basic food, decent wine selection, good service. Lots of families dining, so definitely check it out when you go.

Saratoga
Anywhere on the right side of route 50 is good and anything on the left side is ok. Stay away from the city end it's just so so. Greenfield center you get more for your money. Ballston spa is a nice old city but kind of dirty. Exit 14 and up is where you want to be. Everything is within 10 minutes of the city. Malta has Luther forest but the homes are not the best built for you money.

Sorry for being a clown.
Sorry to offend but I couldn't resist. Have you visited Saratoga yet? If you have, you'd understand the light hearted sarcasm.
Just avoid any streets that look like they are full of rentals. Compared to the rest of the the region, it's extremely safe.

Ballston Spa can be pretty gritty in parts, especially around the creek. We just moved here but I've heard it has come a long, long way in the past few years. It'll probably only get better.
I totally agree with the trash problem in Ballston Spa. There aren't any trash cans downtown that I'm aware of and some of those rentals...ugh. The village needs to start cracking on the white trash in that town. It's downright sad.
Suspiciously, Front Street always looks nice and clean.
