Troy's future
It's been well established that Troy is on the up-swing, (restaurants, affordable housing, antiques, galleries, art ******ry) but what else does it need? I think a huge step would be rehabbing Proctors theater as well as attracting an anchor store or two. Your thoughts.

Uhhhh Proctors is in Schenectady.... and doesn't really need "rehabbing." It's pretty successful.

juppiter you got it wrong on everything u just said. First of all there is a proctors in Troy, too, and may be even larger than the one in Schenectady. Its on fourth ave. Secondly, proctors in schenectady is not successful at all. The only reason why it is open because it receives significant subsidies from the metroplex development authority. They fund it on the claim that it will contribute to more businesses being located downtown from increased overal activity, nightlife, and the appearence that there are lots of things going on. Its wrong and a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. So if you want to contribute, you should have a little more knowledge of what goes on here in the capital district.

An Anchor store may be OK but what really draws folks to Troy is the fact that the Downtown has a lot of unique stores that are not repetitious in every mall or town. Also the Folks that live in Troy are very connected and it is fun that when you go places you see people you know! Great Community spirit in Troy! The Trojans put there heart and soul into where they live!

I mean, if I didn't even know there was a Proctors in Troy, that kinda says something about its prospects.
And Proctors Schenectady just expanded, it can't be doing that poorly.

It just expanded because it got government money from metroplex... trust me, it is not doing well. It is a money loosing business that is propped up by metroplex so people like you will be fooled into thinking downtown schenectady and proctors are successful establishments, in which they are not. This is a big issue in schenectady, where a lot of people are upset over the fact their tax money is being spent on stupid things like proctors.

Whoa! fellas, whooooa! Eye on the ball, Troy not Schenec. Yes peteandpuff, Troy does have SOME unique stores that are well run by great people, but the fact is, they're mostly over priced boutiques that kinda alienate the majority of Trojans and don't jive with their sensibilities. Lest we forget, Troy is more Joe six pack than Sebastian the art student or Richard the Volvo driving eco clothing designer. Not that I want to see a Gap or Barnes and Noble come to town, but businesses need to address the needs and wants of the locals whilst attracting outsiders.

whoa, victor, whooooa! eyes off my balls. Troy and schenectady are different but they face similar problems and its important that troy doesn't try and do what schenectady is doing, even tho some ppl will be fooled into thinking downtown schenectady is doing well, even tho it really isn't.

ok troy needs
After living here for 5 years, it needs...
1) The Riverfront developed, the rest of Troy would fill in, older parts.
2) Some sort of shopping would be nice, a department store perhaps.
3) Things for people to see and do. At 32 I feel 70, nothing around here to do.
4) Proctors or movie house would be nice, I certainly would go to see shows and or movies.
5) The empty lots in downtown need houses built on them.
6) More volunteer things, and community involvment in services/government.
7) Put the airport and train station back.
8) various other things...
