Hey Strangers... (New York, Schenectady, Union: neighborhood, school district, living)

I am moving to Schenectady, New York...
Some where in the Union Street area.
Is this a safe are?
I know NOTHING about this area and was wondering how many
Pleasant neighbors could spill some ups and downs.

I was also wondering about the transportation.
Is it mandatory to drive around?
Also how is it on Carrie Street?

Does any one have knowledge to spare?

Are you living on upper Union or downtown union....big difference. If you are at least 1300 or higher you are in a great area. If you are more like 800s....it is a bit sketchy depending on the block.

I don't know where Carrie Street is, but the I see lots of buses on union, so I think the buses are good. Anywhere on Union you should be able to walk to lots of places.

If you have children there are areas on Union I might stay away from or use caution, but for adults (who are street smart) you are probably ok.

Carrie street is awful stay away from there. There was just a murder near Carrie St on Hattie st. The second murder I'm aware of. It's also in Goosehill which used to be a nice Italian neighborhood 20years ago but now is nothing but trash. There are plenty of buses but a car is necassary. Also I agree parts of Union st are nice but if you have kids I would strongly suggest staying out of the Schdy school district. What am I saying i would suggest staying out of Schenectady period.
