Default Goverment WNY transfering to Capital Region

Any advise, where is a good place to live If I work for the State, I am 50 yrs old, single woman, I ike to be by the water, and mts. Currently I live in N.Falls, Ny and work for NYS but my kids live in MA, and I thought I could be closer to them in the captial region. I spent my younger years in the Adirondacks, and raised my kids in Orange Ct. NY. But I am back in the falls, where I was born, it is easy here, cheap, no traffic, Falls is great but winter sucks and so does the single life. I like to be in a more busy area, sartoga or Glens Falls, and to be able to go to Boston or NYC in a heart beat. Not sure if I should transfer or not.

You should look at Troy - closer to Mass and close to lakes and mtn areas, yet still a small and vibrant city.

Yes, Rensselaer Co., or Columbia. Chatham, Nassau, Austerlitz, Averill Park are all fairly rural, but with the town centers. Chatham has some good restaurants, little shops, etc. They are all just off I-90, so a quick jump over to MA-- and the Berkshires.

If you want rural, I sugest the town of Catskill, a small town in the Catskill mountains about 1 hour from Albany. Other than that I would sugest Albany, a nice City close to the historic Hudson River. Highways and Thruways are all close as well as the Albany International Airport. If you want a more suburban area, I would sugest Guilderland or Colonie. I live in the Westmere Hamlet of Guilderland which is closest to Albany being 5 minutes away and is close to everything like restaurants, shopping, gas stations, malls, ect, and CDTA city bus service that runs every 15 minutes at each stop. Entrances to Highways and Thruways are also within 2 minutes from the Westmere part of Guilderland. I have been here all my life and love it. Hope this helps.

East Greenbush is nice too, and close to the arterials (sp?). It is in Rensselaer County, but close to Albany (right over the bridge) on the other side of the Hudson River.
