Thanks for touching base! Can you be specific about which school? I know that one is very big - Nolan Elementary - have you heard anything about this one? Division Street? Caroline Ave?
I will be looking for a house at the end of the month so I am really interesed in the elementarys.
Thanks!!

Sally, sorry I haven't checked back in a while. Division St. is great. Good teachers, excellent curriculum with a great PTA & a lot of extra curricular activities. It serves the "West" side of Saratoga Springs as well as the small suburban area of Milton. Caroline St. is it's twin school on the "East" side of Saratoga. They were built and opened together 51 years ago. I have never heard anything negative about any of the elementary schools. Lake Avenue is also on the "east" side of Saratoga. Greenfield serves the very rural area of the town of Greenfield. Dorothy Nolan is the school for the homes in the Wilton area and Geyser Road serves the Geyser Crest area of Saratoga & neighborhoods near the State Park. All of these elementary schools filter into the 1 middle school then the 1 high school. Base where you want to live on the area of Saratoga that you're interested in, not the elementary school. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
So to recap:
Greenfield: rural farm areas
Geyser: established neighborhood of Geyser Crest & newer neighborhoods near the state park
Division St.: the neighborhoods to the west of Broadway & also the suburban new developments in the town of Milton
Caroline St: the east side of Broadway & the streets closest to the track, as well as east side neighborhoods near the East Side Rec. area
Lake Ave: the east side of Broadway as well as North Broadway neighborhoods near Skidmore College
Dorothy Nolan: the Wilton area

Be aware that some homes with Saratoga Springs mailing addresses may actually be in the Schylerville school system. Some homes with Ballston Spa mailing addresses are actually in the Saratoga School system. These homes (like mine) are actually in the town of Milton but Milton has no post office, so we end up with a Ballston Spa address. Wilton is also divided into 2 school systems: Saratoga Springs & South Glens Falls. Wilton mailing addresses actually are Gansevoort, NY.

Homes in the Saratoga Springs city proper will have higher property taxes than homes in Milton that also get to use Saratoga Schools, but it is more "desirable" to live on the East side of Saratoga. The areas near Skidmore & the track are the "higher end" areas to live, although there are beautiful upscale areas surrounding the whole city, especially in Milton & Wilton.

I would chose Saratoga school system above Ballston Spa or South Glens Falls, but I hear the Schylerville system is very good also and much smaller than Saratoga Springs.
