ckhthankgod, I don't know where you found these maps on the tri-cities, but I like 'em! I always wondered where the boundaries are for a lot of these neighborhoods. I'll post for the little bit I know about them....

Lansingburgh - not so great. But that's also being very general; so my apologies to anyone from the 'burgh. Verdile's Restaurant has been a fave of mine for years & I never noticed anything "bad" when I'm there.

North Central, South Central, & The Hill - All of these places stretch my comfort level for feeling safe. But I bet someone out there thinks they are OK. Definitely not for me at this time. But I am optimistic for the future.

Downtown - I am biased. I like downtown for what I see it could be. I might agree with another poster on another thread who said it's not so great for families with small children. I think it's a terrific area for urban-style living. Some nice lofts & condos going up; beautiful older buildings for those who want to work & live within walking distance of each other. (did that make sense? ) Sure, you want to have your wits about you when you're there, but that's true for any downtown. Good eats, good music, and Tutunjian is really giving his all to making Troy the jewel it deserves to be.

South Troy - Definitely some pockets to stay out of. But there are other streets that I think are fine; real neighborhoods with well kept homes & folks that actually know their neighbors. HVCC is over that way, but I can't tell from the map if it's still considered South Troy. ??

East Side, Sycaway, Frear Park - IMO, they are all nice areas. Nice parks & golf courses. Starting to filter out into the more "rural" sections of the Greenbushes, Wynantskill & Averill Pk.

We need peteandpuff to weigh in on this!

I like that map as well. I have never seen it before. I'm not too familiar with Troy. I went to HVCC a few years ago so and I had friends who lived in the area so i can tell you what they have told me. Stear clear of North Central, (mostly robberies), and ALONG THE HUDSON RIVER in South Troy. Lansingburgh is not really all that bad, it is just broken down looking. It is in need of some repairs. The Hill, Frear Park, and Scaway are fine, and entertainment wise, downtown I would say Browns is a good bar and there is Revolution Hall which has concerts from time to time. I hope this was helpful. I figured I had to say something. Almost two months have gone by and no one has helped except Piperspal. Good luck!

The only thing I know about Troy (other than it scares the crap out of me at night) is to stay away from North Central. I remember getting lost there a few times and it was kind of scary. The only places I've ever been in Troy though (as in, it was the reason I was even in Troy) was to visit RPI College (they have some cool conventions) and to visit my friends at Emma Willard (all-girls' school, for those who don't know. Gorgeous campus, lovely school).

Is Troy really as scary as people are saying? I understand parts of the city could be, but the whole city? I find that hard to believe.

TBH, I really don't know since I haven't been to all parts of the city. I've been in a few scary parts though, but I've also been in some really pretty parts. There must be some nice quiet part of the city that someone on C-D knows about!
