Default Looking for older house in close proximity to Saratoga, any suggestions?

Hello all! I have found many of the threads very helpful in my search thus far, so thank you all who have contributed. I am looking mainly for a vacation/investment home. I would be using this for immediate family and extended family vacations so it needs to be fairly large, at least 4 bedrooms or more.

I'm really looking for an older historic house in close proximity to a downtown/village. I prefer public water and public sewers since I will not be in close proximity to deal with problems. If possible I'd like 1/2 acre of land or more.

We would like to be driving distance to Saratoga, within an hour or so. My family and I visited last year and enjoyed ourselves. We looked at several properties while there and we liked Cambridge. (No Public Sewers, property was small, but not out of the question for the right property).

After some or your suggestions I have looked (online only) at the communities of Broadalbin, Schuylerville and Kingston. Am I on the right track? After reasearching online it looks like Saratoga will be too expensive as a vacation home for us. I'm looking for an old quaint town that has a good school distict. I'm a NYS certfied teacher and my husband works for NYS court system and if we decided to make a move in the future we want to be sure the schools are good. We are also thinking resale value. We have 2 young boys.

We will be back in the spring/summer and will continue our search. Broadalbin does appeal to me because it is close to Sacandaga Lake. We live in Suffolk County, Long Island so we don't want to be too much further north for the sake of travel time. Thank you all in advance for helping me with my obsessive search! I truly appreciate any information you could provide.

Many Long Islanders end up in Clifton Park, sometimes called Upstate LI. Reminds them of home I guess (newer developments, good schools, strip malls, etc.)

Hmmm, I'm thinking of a historic and established neighborhood. Now that you bring it up, I guess it is more like where I live now with older houses and a downtown "village" with mom and pop stores. I'm not into the strip malls actually, I'm not much of a mall shopper either. I currently live in an old house that we restored. That is my passion so I'm looking to do the same somewhere else. Thanks for your suggestion. At least I know where I DON'T want to look! ;-) I guess I'm not like many Long Islander?

Have you looked at Ballston Spa (prices might be too high), Greenwich, Lake Luzerne, Salem, Corinth, or Warrensburg?
