Question Wildwood school in Schenectady

Hi does anyone have experience with this special needs school? My son has autism and we are thinking about relocating so he can attend. I would also like to know what areas are safe to live that are close by Schenectady. I know the school is on Curry Rd. Ext. Is Niskayuna safe? I'm totally unfamiliar with these areas. Any response would be appreciated.

Niskayuna is one of the most affluent suburbs in the Capital District and is pretty safe.

As above poster said, very nice, safe.
Look on this forum for the post "Special Education in Saratoga Springs", w/in that post I put in several links for autism in the area. Also check out Niskayuna's main town site and school district sites. Also call Rotterdam, I've heard there are special programs for Asperger's (sorry sp?) so maybe they also have special programs for Autism. Each district in the area seems to have certain programs, check around....Good luck!

Wildwood is situated nicely between towns like Guilderland, Colonie, Rotterdam, Niskayuna....travel time to any of those is fairly short. All 4 towns offer safe affordable neighborhoods. The Wildwood programs have a very good reputation here in the area; and a lot of fundraisers and galas are held with impressive attendance. My friend did an internship there for her OT certification/licensing. She had nothing but great things to say about it. Best of luck!

Good rule of thumb: if the area looks bad, then it' probably not somewhere you'd want to stay. Avoid streets with shoddy multifamily rentals, poorly maintained structures and lawns.

I have a really negative bias towards Schenectady as a whole...I used to work there and I wasn't impressed with the folks I worked with at all.

However...Niskyuna and parts of Rotterdam seem nice.

Niskayuna Is a Very Good School District Rated 2nd best in The United States, Ive lived there for quite sometime and Loved it.. The rental is a bit on the high side if you have a big family but its worth it!! Good Luck to you

Default Wildwoodstock - a fun benefit coming up!

Sunday May 17th from 1pm to 9pm, there will be a fund raiser at the Parting Glass, 40 Lake Ave., in Saratoga Springs. Eight different bands, great
atmosphere/mix of ages & people. Cool pub in Downtown Saratoga Spgs. (for those who have been asking on different threads on where to go for
cocktails & such. ) All to help the kids at Wildwood.

I've heard 4 of the 8 bands & they are all really good. Personal fave is Sirsy - that group is goin' places for sure.
Anyway - thought the OP might be interested in this event.
