let me retract that last post. i confused pine hills with center square. pine hills is ok. there are alot of college students. suny albany students, saint rose students. alot of bars. there are some nice residential areas. it is about 2 1/2 miles west of downtown. it is still pretty urban. sirens, noiswe, college kids. and not that far from the ghetto, probably a mile or so.i would go west of where wettern avenue and madison avenue come together. only western continues on, madison ends. if you are around the partridge pub, michaels, bogies area it is very student ghettoish. if you fins the price chopper on madison, use that as a guide. anywhere around there is fine.

2 1/2 miles west of downtown? Are you sure?
Speaking of pubs, I take it Partridge Pub should be towards the top of my list when I move to the Capitol area? What are some others to hit up?
Who makes the best beer in the area? My biggest concern moving from Colorado to Albany/Saragota/Scotia area is the beer.
Maybe I should start a new thread, you totally distracted me.

if u like drinking then u will love albany. there are lots and lots of bars, nigh clubs, college bars, wine bars, all kinds of bars. and they stay open late 3:30-4 or so. where the partidge pub is is about 2 /2 miles from the capitol, maybe 3 1/2 miles from north pearl street, at the bottom of state street. north pearl has probably 10 -15 bars and night clubs. the brew house, mcgeary's and jillians are real big. it is sort of funny because all three of those places are a 7 iron from the ghetto but nobody ever gets -f-ed with. i have never heard about any partiers getting mugged. basically the city is safe unless you are involved in the criminal life. people don't get mugged or whatever just walking around. the area where the partidge pub is is another big party spot. bogie's, sadie klutz and michael's are all right there. and suburban albany like out on wolf road (a big mall and retail and hotel area) has a bunch of night clubs. believe me, i went to college at saint rose, albany is a party city.saratoga is 25 miles north and that is another major party city. scotia is just a suburb of schectqdy, west of schenectady. i wouldn't reccomed scotia. u don't want to be that far west, its too lame. albany-guilderland-latham-colonie if u want to be in the action part of the albany area. if u want to go to saratoga i highly reccomend it, the town is great, but it is 25 miles from albany,

Well lame Scotia may be about as happy as I'll get since I'll be working around Florida NY. Frankly, a man can only commute so far without his grey matter turning into runny gelatin . Lately open space, woods, and a community interests me more than the party scene.
Where's my damn cane! HAHAHAHA! Sigh...
Thanks for the info.

Just saw this today....
And U. Albany was named the top party school in the USA for a few years. Funny thing is I went there and never really partied, but apparrently it confirms this thread....

Once again..I'm not much of a drinker so perhaps I'm not the guy to critique bars...but if you can only make it as far as Schenectady/Scotia ....several fun places are in Schenectady now ... Pinhead Susans and Katie O'Byrnes come to mind. The latter was a lot of fun on St. Patrick's Day.

Florida NY Rumble? Open a cool bar in downtown Amsterdam, you'll be the only game in town....we're a drinkin' town too.
