Wedding Cake/cupcake ideas... (New York, Albany: home, weddings, prices)

Hey all--
My fiance and I are getting married on Sept 18th in Lake George (99 days away!) We were hoping to do a lot of DIY touches...and this is one area where we are having trouble. To keep it short, we are inviting ~200 people, it's an evening reception, and dinner will be served. We wanted to have the jumbo cupcakes instead of wedding cake--and have looked into quite a few vendors for this--some places are charging $4.50 a cupcake plus other misc fees! That's just crazy to us. He wants to make the cupcakes himself ( he isnt really Mr. Chef but I love this idea), but that can get really hectic.

Does anyone know any other places that have delicious jumbo cupcakes (preferably carrot cake!) for a decent price? Or any other cake ideas in general? I feel like you mention 'wedding' and vendors jack up the prices significantly...it's ridiculous.

Check out CoccaDotts. Not sure what their prices are for cupcakes but they do lot of custom cakes. They have carrot cake but their orange cake is incredible!

I hear that the Bread Basket (in Saratoga Springs) has better cupcakes than SpaCity Cupcakes (I am getting this information from an event planner who makes cakes a lot, so I trust her judgment). Also, I have always been a huge fan of Bella Napoli in Latham- I wonder if they might do something custom for you? They are usually pretty reasonable on pricing. Hope some of this helps!

In Lake George there is the Lake George Baking Co.
I have never had any of their cake, but their pastries are delicious, and I know for a fact that they do weddings. The woman who owns it is so nice- I think her name was Betty or Debby or something.
