Default Looking and need to network PLEASE ADVISE!

Thanks for taking time to read this, maybe you can help. I am looking for a long term furnished space inc/utilities for one person in Albany area beginning Sept/Oct 2009, date and rental term are flexible given the right scenario. I am a non smoker, clean down to earth, personable, focused 47 year old professional woman with an M.D and MBA . I have a home, a partner and pets in Louisville, Ky (via Boston and Wisconsin) and have taken an executive position based in Albany, NY. My intentions are to work through the weekdays and fly home, travel or occasionally have my partner visit on the weekends. An attractive furnished studio or room in the private home of other professionals, empty-nesters or retirees would be ideal. Off street parking is a big plus. I am definitely not looking for a party or college/young professional living atmosphere. It would be nice though to be in the company of active intelligent folks even if on the periphery. I have spent time reading the other posts here but somehow I still don't have a good overall feel. I know I have to wait until late August to do my research in person but I feel a lot can be gained by doing a little prep work here and now. I lived in Brookline, Ma in Coolidge corner. Could anyone here make comparisons to Boston areas vs. similar areas in Albany? I live in Louisville now. What about Louisville Ky areas like Bardstown Rd or Old St Matthews or Frankfort Ave and Old Louisville vs. Albany neighborhoods? Any links, suggestions or questions are appreciated. Thanks,
