Gotta agree with this... if you're working in Schenectady Niskayuna is a short commute and one of the best school districts in the area... also Niskayuna borders Colonie which has a mall and a bunch of restaurants.

I agree with Niskayuna too. Maybe Ballston Lake, Burnt Hills, Scotia and Guilderland closer to Schenectady too.

There are enclaves of new construction in the Latham, Colonie, Nisky areas so take a look at the Sunday Times Union Classifieds for open house models (available online) or speak with a local realtor. Guilderland may have some newer developments.

Any golf course communities?
I don't know. Golf communities don't seem as prevalent up north as in the south. I think you'd find them more in vacation areas (closer to Lake George maybe?) than in the direct suburbs.

Are there any planned communities in the Capital Region? Here in the Syracuse area, we have a community by the name of Radisson that is a planned community that has a golf course in it. Is something like this more of what you are looking for? (for the OP): Radisson Community
Radisson Community Association
Radisson Greens Golf Course

I think the closest thing is Colonial Acres in the town of Bethlehem but it's not really the same as that.

Take a look at the town of Clifton Park. I know lots of people who live in Clifton Park who work at GE. The commute is about 25 minutes. The school, although a large district is pretty decent. It has a very nice community feel with a great YMCA and Library, convenient to stores and the Northway. There is sort of a golf community by Eagle Crest golf course with newer homes on 1-2 acre lots, but it's not like the golf communities down south. Sort of just living by the golf course, not necessarily a golf community feel.

There are plenty of golf courses around that are just a short drive, so if I were you, I wouldn't pick a home just based on the golf course it's close to. Most are public courses. Even Saratoga National, one of the premier golf clubs in the area is open to the public.

If you're looking for a golf community more for the social aspect, many business owners and people with an extra chunk of change like to join the Edison Golf & Country Club. That would be convenient if you're living in Clifton Park/Rexford or Niskayuna. Just remember the golf season is MUCH shorter here.

I think Niskayuna is nice. It's a more mature area, so homes will tend to be slightly older. It's very convenient to GE and that's also where the GE R&D is located. The downside in my opinion is that Niskayuna is sort of the crown jewel of Schenectady County. The rest of the county has very little revenue or growth, so Niskayuna sort of gets dragged down. You'll find the tax rate to be higher than surrounding areas simply because it's schenectady County. In my opinion, Saratoga County is in much better shape or even Albany county.

The best is to come for a visit and drive around so you get a better feel.

Good luck!

I've heard bad things about Guilderland schools. A co-worker took her son out of GHS and put him into Albany High because he needed more attention and Guilderland wasn't giving it. My Mom's boss is having a similar problem and might send her son to boarding school instead of keeping him there.

Is Guilderland that bad? It seems to have good numbers: https://www.nystart.gov/publicweb/Di...t=010802060000

Clifton Knolls in Clifton park sits on Clifton Knolls Executive Golf Course. Good schools, nice community, very friendly area.

There is another golf course, Van Patton about four miles further from GE, and lots of homes around there, Country Knolls, Sherwood Forest off the top of my head.

You'll find a lot of 4/2.5 homes with hardwood floors and fireplaces in Clifton Park.
