I understand and even the greatschools.net website gets into the complexity of the rankings and to keep other things in mind too.
Also, while this school gets a bad rap somewhat, does Albany High have some good academic programs?

My co-worker is satisfied with it. Another one has two small children in the Albany school district and she absolutely loves it. I think it also might depend on the type of environment the parent is ok with. My parents moved from Schenectady when it came time for me to enter a school where metal detectors are a part of everyday life.

I swear I was subscribed to this, but maybe not. You have all provided great insight! Thanks. Radission is much more like where we are. Our neighborhood has the pool, tennis, golf, etc. You have to join at varying levels, but it is nice to have it in your backyard when you want it.
I am not sure we have to have that again, but it would be nice to see apples to apples, KWIM? Niskayuna would be nice distance wise for sure. I think is 8 miles. Can't beat that.
As for schools, I have to be honest and say anything up there is likely better than GA. I grew up in WV and my husband in MA. Neither of us attended the best schools in the nation, but we both grew up fine and ended up engineers. I don't want my son to have to worry about gangs or crazy stuff, but lots of smaller systems provide great education. Depends on the student and teachers and parents.
We are officially moving now, BTW. Just waiting for our relocation manager to set things up. A place that seems to really be growing is Halfmoon/Mechanicville. Lots of newer construction, reasonably priced, etc. Any thoughts on that vicinity?

If you want a smaller school district that would still be somewhat close, look at Schuylerville. Schuylerville Central School District Overview | GreatSchools

A drive from Mechanicville would be quite a hike to GE. Plus, I always thought Mechanicville looked pretty depressing. Halfmoon sounds more like your type of place and that's at least a 25 min drive to GE.

I'd stay away from a Mechanicville address. Besides the longer commute, it just doesn't have a very good reputation. There are developments that would almost be considered Mechanicville, but they call it Halfmoon or sometimes stretch it and call it Clifton Park just so the homes are marketable. I mean, I'm sure there are some nicer areas there and the people are fine, but I think if you're going to invest in a home, you have to consider the desirability of the town. I would pick Schenectady over Mechanicville because at least you'll be close to work.
Halfmoon is sort of Clifton Park. They share the same school system(Shenendehowa), share the same library(Clifton Park Halfmoon Library located in Clifton Park). Use the same YMCA. Halfmoon is growing because that's where the bulk of the open land is, as far as development goes. IMO, Halfmoon is growing because it's sort of an extension of Clifton Park. Many people with the Clifton Park postal address are actually living in Halfmoon, but if you ask most of them, they say they live in Clifton park.

^^Interesting info. Thanks. It is so hard to tell when you are looking at homes and developments on the computer.
Another area of building is Guilderland. Any thoughts?

Guilderland is slightly more expensive than Clifton Park. I know someone in Random Acres which is a pretty nice, family oriented neighborhood. The elementary school is just down the street. Home prices there are around $400-500+K. It's pretty convenient to GE Schenectady, about 12-15 minute commute. It's in Albany county, but it has a Schenectady address. Just a couple of blocks away, it changes to a Guilderland address. Guilderland is suppose to be pretty nice. Schools are pretty decent as well.
