Default Buffalo vs. Albany

I thought I had made up my mind to move to Buffalo. However, i'm really worried about not being able to find a job there. So now i'm looking at Albany again as a possibility. I'll either go to UB law or Alabany Law School.

Which City do you prefer and why?

I need to know where we'll fit in better and were it'll be easier to live comfortably. - Well be renting.
(keep in mind that were an interracial lesbian couple in our 20's)

Thanks in advance to all of your help!

Hello! I currently go to Albany Law and am a native capital regioner, so if you have any questions, you can direct message me. Albany generally a good town for 20-somethings. Entertainment, bars, and restaurants abound because of the amount of colleges in the area. And you pretty much have the pick of what kind of area you want to live in- Lark Street area is where many bars are and is more diverse; Pine Hills is where all the college (inc. undergrad) kids live; Helderberg section is nice and almost has a suburban feel. Those are not all of the options, but just a selection.

Let me know if you have specific questions about the school/area. It is hard to say which city is better without knowing what kind of law you are looking towards, your must-haves in a place to live, etc.

I think if you go to either law school you're pretty much guaranteed a job!

Default Jobs & Apartments

Thanks for the info.

I was wondering what the job market was like in Albany. How hard is it to find a decent paying part-time job either in customer svc or admin work?

I was browsing the employement adds for both Buffalo and Albany, but Albany seems to offer a little more. However you can't really be sure if thier real jobs posted or just scams, particularly on craigslist.

Also, how well kempt are the aprtments there? Would I beable to find a nice 1br apt (utils included) for $700 or under?

This thread kills me. My husband and I are looking for a place to live, and Albany and Buffalo are the choices. I grew up in Buffalo and went to school then lived in Albany a while. It's such a hard toss-up, as both places have goods and bads. I love Buffalo because of the culture, arts, food and it truly is the city of good neighbors. I do worry about jobs but by sheer numbers, Buffalo is so huge you would think there is more to offer than Albany. I like Albany's geographic location better, though, based on it being a good "hub" to NYC, Boston, etc. But I think everyday living is more of a consideration- Albany doesn't thrill me as much as Buffalo. I'm trying to figure out if there are progressive/liberal places to be in Buffalo. I guess I'm not much help! I'm all over the place. Best wishes to you- keep us posted.

It sounds like you and I think a lot of like. Everything you just said are my same thoughts and concerns. I currently live in Florida, our unemployement rate is a little higher then buffalo. I don't know if that gives me much hope but at least Buffalo's unemployment isn't worse than ours....
