Default Looking for info on Galway, NY and surrounding areas

We are looking into moving to the Galway area in the next few months (from Long Island) and are wondering about the culture, schools, crime etc. etc. The home we are interested in is on Fayville Road but having only seen it in photos makes it hard to decide is the area is suited to us. What is the surrounding area like? Is it farmland or more suburban? Any details you can provide about the town in general would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Spent my childhood in Galway. Galway Village has one stop light and has four streets--East, West, North and South Streets. Don't blink--or you'll miss it. The area was orginally very rural but like the rest of Saratoga County it has gotten more built up. It is still pretty rural by Long Island standards. (Saratoga County is the only area in the Albany area that has seen a growth in population.) Galway is near Saratoga Springs which is a very beautiful and historic town. ( I actually lived in East Galway which consisted of a gas station, church, cemetary and a few homes. East Galway did not rate a stop light.) Galway Central School system has both an elementary and a junior/senior high school in the center of the village. Crime is very very rare.

Galway is still pretty rural- you won't find a Walmart's or mall for 25 minutes, after passing some farmland and a couple small villages. Saratoga Springs is 25 minutes away, and is one of the greatest small downtown areas around. There are always activities and festivals, and it's generally a great place to take a stroll. You are pretty far from the Northway (I-87) in Galway, which is the main thoroughfare through the capital district. Where are your job(s) located? Crime is very low in that area. As a plus, you will be near one of the best christmas tree stands around- Bob's Trees- if you need a christmas tree at all. However, just expect to travel a bit to get to shops, restaraunts and malls. BUT, Galway is very pretty- I went to summer camp there every year and loved it.

Good luck with the move!
