Default Mayor Chavez being hammered on radio (770 KKOB)

Man.....listening to the Jim Villanucci Show (770 KKOB) right now and he and the callers are hammering the Mayor after he called Jim V a kook and a lier on the KKOB saturday show. The mayor talks about councilor Don Harris being recalled .....well maybe he should be recalled. Councilor Brad Winter is introducing a bill to eliminate the Red Lite cameras so lets see what happens......

Everything that comes out of the mayors mouth is a lie. How can anyone trust anything that he does any longer? His asst. chief ray shultz takes the cake as a suck ass.

Eye on Albuquerque has a camera poll up: Poll: What should be done about the Red Light Camera program?

Someone is trying to have Marty recalled over the smoking ban.

Harry,

Here is the link for a recall permit:

I hope to get a few of these filled out at work this week.

Albuquerque's city government is laughable, and it's not just Marty. Year after year, city council puts on a parade of ineffective bickering and pandering to constituents who can't even agree on what they want. I'd say the solution would be to recall the whole lot of 'em, if it weren't for the fact that we'd just end up with a whole new group of buffoons running ABQ.

I say, to all those dissatisfied with their public officials, run yourself or help somebody you respect run. Democracy isn't perfect, and sometimes the reason crooks get elected is because honest people don't run.

Often, for every one person complaining at the top of their lungs, there are three people very content with the situation and just being quiet. If you're satisfied that that's not the case, then you should have a great shot at a poorly-paying public service job come next election time.

Excellent post, Zoidberg. As many people forget, our elected officials are human and therefore imperfect.

After being around the block a few times, I've come to the conclusion that there is little difference between the vast majority of individuals that seek high profile public positions (Mayor, Governor, U.S./State Rep, City Councilor, etc.). Most are going to do some things you favor and some things you oppose. At the end of the day, you just hope that the good things they accomplish in office outnumber/outweigh the bad. At this point in time, I think Marty still has more in the 'plus' column than the 'minus'.

And for those who make the argument that ABQ/NM politicians are worse than those elsewhere: Can someone please direct me to the place where all elected officials are altruistic, always do the right thing, and are never tempted to take advantage of the power of their office? Maybe we can recruit some of these saints to come this way and help lead us to the promised land. Maybe Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny can make the trip too...

Chap

Default Recall Don Harris

I just ran across this website www.recallharris.org

Looks like some people are really doing something about one of the City Councilors and not just talking about it!!!

Good for them. I myself downloaded the Recall Harris Petition and am going to send it to them.

Maybe if we could get one of those Councilors out of office with a recall, they would start listening to us. I think they all should go and this is a good first step.

Didn't Chavez get re-elected by a fairly sizable majority? Or am I remembering that incorrectly?

LLD wonders:

> Didn't Chavez get re-elected by a fairly sizable majority?

according to ...
City of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - Unofficial Election Results (http://www.bernco.gov/upload/images/clerk/city_05/completeResults.html - broken link)

... these are the numbers:

Candidate ........... Total ...... Percentage
ERIC G. GRIEGO .... 22,523 .... 25.96%
MARTIN J. CHAVEZ 41,023 ..... 47.28%
BRAD WINTER ...... 21,352 ..... 24.61%
DAVID L. STEELE ... 1,859 ...... 2.14%

He's pretty much double the runner-up's numbers,
but I guess technically not elected by a majoriy.
