Nexis... have you ever taken a Google Street View look at any of the areas of ABQ
(not 'ALQ") through which you suggest running trolleys, light rail or whatever?

Just wondering which historic buildings you intend to tear down to make room for your
proposals..

Additionally, there's that messy bit of gravity to deal with.
Many E-W streets have quite a bit of slope to deal with.

The more advanced rubber tire handles these quite well.
The ancient technology of metal wheel on metal rail - not so much.

Streetcars and Flexible Light Rail's wouldn't need any tearing down. Just a lane torn up , so the tracks can be laided. Then when the streetcar lane is reopened , buses would use it like an Express bus lane. Thats how Portland , DC , Providence , DC and Philly operate or are planning there systems. The only projects that would require a demolishing of a building are a Regional Rail type system , but even thats rare.

Or.. we could modify that streetcar a little bit.

We could move the power source onboard. Now we won't need the overhead lines (there's a savings).
We could replace the steel wheels with rubber tires and a suspension. Now we won't need the streets to get torn up (there's some more savings).

We could call it the "Albuquerque trolley". Brilliant, I say!

So, in other words you have no idea what the topography, or other considerations
affecting your proposals since

A: you aren't aware of the steep dip and climb of Central Ave
b; you aren't aware that downtown Central Ave is barely two lanes
c: that you'd have to eliminate almost all downtown street parking on Central
d: ...

Well, the conclusion is pretty clear, isn't it?

Yawn.. enough time wasted on this one..

Other cities have done it. I looked at the Grade , its not that Steep. For Regional Rail terms yes its steep , but for Light Rail / Streetcar terms its not. Look at Pittsburgh system it climbs steeper hills then that. You can scariface 2 lanes. Traffic follow has improved once these systems are up and running. As for the Parking issue that can reworked. I think this will get more ppl out of there cars.

Maybe we should start posting on the New Jersey forums and educate them...

Well, he SAYS he's one of our city planners.. and who are we to doubt him despite the
fact that he doesn't know where the city boundaries are?

Ahh it all makes sense now. If we sacrifice two lanes down town we won't need to worry about parking because no one will be able to drive on Central anyways. And just image the traffic flow on central. With no lanes for cars we will never see it packed or cars even sitting at red light. Genius!

It isn't very convincing to have someone search the forums for any mention of rail and come fan boy it and tell everyone how great it will be and how it is the smart solution without knowing anything about the area. It just shows everyone that your mind is completely made up and no amount of evidence or common sense could convince you otherwise.

Excellent idea, I think it could work if we put bells on top of it.
