Went to a twins game in mn new stadium. I was against building town town because of traffic and no parking etc. I was wrong it's a great venue. I met my friends at a cool Thai La'bistro sea food resturant. We had a few drinks some laughs and walked over to the stadium noticing that down town was busy every resturant was packed down town was hopping ! The stadium had a feeling of belonging. We were in town to see the game we were in Minneapolis proud to be in the heart of the city. Tall buildings bussing in the streets half the people here to see the game some people there because they figured down town would be a happening place tonight. What a great stadium. Oh! Crazy thing I'm talking to people and finding out there from out of state to come see the game. One from Georgia, Kansas city, Arizona, No kidding I was entering the stadium and a acquaintance from phoenix yelled my name. My comment what u doing here his remark i come up here twice a year to see Vikings games ,and wanted to see the new stadium cause he can take a train from the airport to down town, rent a hotel room and take the train back. Never has to rent a car. Guys I'm a motor head this even sounded good to me.

This is happening all around the country. It is the future.
"Next year the Series will move three miles north to the $128 million TD Ameritrade Park in downtown Omaha."
Another example of a mid-size city that gets the value of locating stadiums downtown.
Perhaps you could suggest an event equivalent to the CWS to fill an ABQ stadium, and a local company equivalent to TD Ameritrade which funded a chunk of construction. Do you think that ABQ can support 2 baseball stadiums as Omaha apparently can?
I suggest that this move had absolutely nothing to do with the new stadium being downtown. It likely had more to do with being a new stadium and, perhaps, some cost concessions on use.
omaha has always hosted the college world series. it's not like they got it because they built a stadium.
I am fully aware that the CWS has been in Omaha for a long long time. I am saying that when given the chance to build a new stadium the city of Omaha located it in downtown like countless other cities both large and medium are doing. Downtown Omaha will reap the ancillary financial benefits of such an arrangement.

That's not the point I'm making. Cities both large and medium are locating stadiums and arenas (of all sizes) downtown. The city of Omaha (no urban mecca) had a decision to make on where to locate its new stadium and they chose downtown, unlike ABQ which chose to locate Isotopes Park on the periphery. Downtown Omaha will reap the ancillary benefits of such a decision. Downtown ABQ reaps no such benefits for Isotopes Park. Furthermore, fans in ABQ have exactly one food choice (stadium food) and one transportation choice (car).

Who is suggesting the powers that run CWS chose to move the event to the new downtown stadium because it's downtown? The city of Omaha is wisely (in my opinion) following the redevelopment path taken by so many other cities and locating infrastructure downtown. Smart move. Just as it was smart for Minneapolis, San Diego, Indianapolis, Washington DC, Denver, Boise, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Seattle, Houston, San Francisco etc. etc. etc.
if abq had a tenant that would be a major draw, it would make sense to put an arena downtown. i don't think that's the case right now. like i said in the other thread, i'd personally rather see a 2,000 - 3000 seat, state-of-the-art music venue with 2-3 concerts a week. as it stands, there's no good venue to see a show here.
