I don't know but I guess I need to bring my daughter to ABQ playgrounds! She is soo shy and such a people watcher that if there is more than 1 or 2 other kids she just sits there and watches everyone else.
Plus it looks like kids in ABQ just started school! Where I live right now we have a couple diffrent parks in rotation and certian ones are busy at certian times. Best bet is to find a park you enjoy the most and go back at diffrent times if you want more people.

My kids are very young (3 and almost 1), and we occasionally go to parks, but they are still a little young to really enjoy that kind of thing. We often go to ABQs Playroom on Paseo and Ventura for open play, which they both love. We also have an annual pass to the biopark so we hit up the aquarium, botanical gardens, and zoo (the first two more frequently). Library story time is also a big hit, so we do that once per week. And much to the employees chagrin, my kids love going to the children's section Borders and Barnes & Noble. Actually the employees at Barnes & Noble are very pleasant. We do clean up after ourselves, unlike some parents who let their kids take books and toys off the shelves without replacing them.

Parks do seem to be pretty low on the list of kid activities here, vs. most other places I've been.
Unfortunately, many of your kids' peers are plopped down in front of the TV during those hours. Good for you for bucking the trend.
Another 5% is getting groomed for a career in deafening people in restaurants. Man, if only we could put that training to a better use.

It depends on their age and it depends on where they live, etc.

Yep I think that is the biggest thing. I also have annual pass so its hard to go to a park when we could go to the biopark. I only go to the park when I want to take my dog or I am just not in the mood to drive all the way down there. We also have a large backyard so if I just want to throw a ball around with the dog or son we are fine.
Sometimes I look at the park and wonder why it is so empty too, then I realize it is freakin hot! If I go there I am just going to hide under a tree, my backyard is much nicer. Try going on the weekend say 9 to noon, especially one that has tennis courts and you should see lots of people.
That said I am always amazed at how many people are at Montgomery park in the middle of the blazing hot day playing sports. That park is always active.

Yeah the heat is a big factor in why we don't go to the park more. Neither of my kids does well for very long in the blazing sun. We sit on our covered patio with chalk, bubbles, and the hose on a slow stream and they are entertained for a long time. Plus it's convenient to be able to run inside the house for water, snacks, diaper changes, etc.

Yep, yep...
As a teenager in Florida I had some good paying roofing jobs in the Summer. I constantly consider what you said above, and when I see roofers, I have to admire their endurance.

when we were kids, the weather never even crossed our minds, we played outside every single day of the summer, we played basketball, baseball, wrestled, rode bikes and went to the park and Portales is hotter than ABQ is.
maybe small kids who need a parent dont go to the park cause it may be too hot for the parent, I can understand that.
I think kids nowdays just have different priorities, they have all sorts of modern video games,internet,mp3 players, lots of tv channels and cell phones, I think kids like to be more lazy these days.

My 3yo son loves the park. His favourite is the "blue park" near Costco down off of Eubank at the community center. That one has some nice shade and see's a little traffic.
Another one he likes is just east of Tramway on Lomas, usually gets warm so mornings or early evenings are best.
