Zoidberg, hands down.

He is also, BTW, a Master Practitioner of Sarcasm.
That is an art form for which I have a high regard.

How many fans do you think are going to cross the border (and take risking your life) in the Murder Capital of the World........especially to see a Soccer game!

some people give a rats ^$$ about a soccer stadium, I happen to think its pretty nice, but my whole point was to show that if Juarez can pull off something that BIG and expensive then ABQ should be able to.

Default Mayor Taking Pragmatic Approach to Downtown Arena

Good story in the Journal today (sorry no link available) about Mayor Berry's approach to Downtown Arena/Convention Hotel Project. He said he's neutral and is studying the issue. He's formed a group made up of supporters of the project, detractors of the project and others. While a definite supporter of this project, I can say I admire his pragmatic approach to this issue.

I agree. Hopefully, no matter what the decision on the arena, they aren't so stupid to sell such a prime piece of land to APS.

Sell the land to APS? The chances are that APS will buy it, and then sell a portion to the city. The chances of the city buying the property and then selling it to APS are slim to none.

I stand corrected. I think it would be in the city's best interest to buy the land and keep it out of APS hands.

Wait, wait, wait... Maybe I've had my head in the sand lately... But what's this about APS buying the land?

Mayor Studying Downtown Arena
By Dan McKay Journal Staff Writer
"In a Journal interview Thursday, Berry broached the possibility of acquiring some of the land from APS if needed for the event center. But he stressed repeatedly that he hasn't determined yet whether to move forward on an event center or hotel.

"At this point, I call myself neutral on it," Berry said. "I want to study it."

APS Superintendent Winston Brooks, meanwhile, said the district made an offer on the property Wednesday. The site, at Central and Broadway NE, now features the former First Baptist Church building, which the school district believes would work as a fine arts magnet school."

APS had bid on the land that the city had planned the Arena around at Central and Broadway.
I am not sure who currently owns the land, but basically APS is trying to buy the property before the city makes any decisions so that they can have the old baptist church on the corner.

I'm all for historic buildings, but I'd sure like that old baptist church building to go away. It couldn't be built today because of skyscraper setback codes, and it's not particularly sightly. The 1950's era-looking loudspeakers on the roof take it from outmoded to downright tacky.
